Grantsboro is the retail hub for three closely tied towns
The small town of Grantsboro is the economic center of the greater Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula community, an area that includes the nearby towns of Alliance and Bayboro. This community, home to about 700, is surrounded by pine forests, farmland and abundant waterways, including the Bay and Neuse rivers and the Pamlico Sound. “The three towns are like one big area, and Grantsboro is where most of our retail and commercial activity is,” says Gary Poindexter, a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty New Bern.
Homes in Grantsboro list around $245K with spacious lots
The median price of homes here is about $245,000, with property often including a half-acre or more of land. The community features historic homes, like vintage 1920s farmhouses, and new construction like contemporary cottages and New Traditional residences. Many of the ranch-style houses and manufactured homes cropped up between the 1970s and 2000. The community is surrounded by creeks and canals, so various properties touch special flood zones and require flood insurance. Hurricane season ranges from early June to late November on the Atlantic Coast.

Public boat ramps and parks offer easy water access
Grantsboro's proximity to the Neuse River, Bay River and Pamlico Sound is a huge draw. “It’s a big area for boating, sail boating and fishing – especially saltwater fishing,” Poindexter says. Several public boat ramps are within a 20-mile drive, the closest being Lee’s Landing on the Upper Broad Creek – a Neuse River tributary. Joe Himbry Waterfront Park is less than 5 miles away. The Bayboro park has a fishing dock and a small playground.
