Grayson Valley has a convenient location in Jefferson County
Grayson Valley is a Jefferson County community offering retail, golf and nearby green spaces. Some homes are within walking distance of the private Grayson Valley Country Club. "This is a good neighborhood with friendly neighbors and access to the interstate. It's about 25 to 30 minutes from downtown. The area has a lot of restaurants and shopping," says Tonie Johnson, a Birmingham-area Realtor with Avast Realty, LLC. The community is a census-designated place and a suburb of Birmingham and Trussville.
Split-levels, ranch-style houses and townhouses
Grayson Valley's undulating streets contain several split-level homes and ranch-style houses. Most residences show a mix of brick and vinyl exteriors. Older properties often have concrete driveways leading to side garages. The Mount Vernon development has residences from the early 2000s. Grayson Valley houses usually range in price from $130,000 to $280,000. The community has a few single-story condos and several two-story townhouses, which can be found in developments like Fox Creek. The attached units cost between $75,000 and $165,000. "The area attracts families and second-time home buyers. The home prices are [comparatively] affordable," Johnson says.
Jefferson County has a history of severe storms and tornados, which may result in wind damage and flash flooding.
Teeing off at Grayson Valley Country Club and visiting Turkey Creek Nature Preserv
Grayson Valley Country Club is a private facility inside the community. The club offers an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, fitness center and a seasonal pool for members. Locals are about 3 miles from neighborhood parks in nearby Trussville. Turkey Creek Nature Preserve, about a 6-mile drive away, opens from Wednesday to Sunday. The preserve allows catch-and-release fishing and swimming in the creek; however, visitors are encouraged to use caution while in the water. There are also five trails and a popular overlook next to the waterfall. Cosby Lake Park is another passive park to the north with a scenic lake; those hoping to catch bass, catfish or brim must obtain a fishing license.
Commercial hubs line Chalkville Mountain Road
Chalkville Mountain Road brings locals to commercial hubs like Trussville Shopping Center. Retail plazas along the roadway contain national storefronts, service providers and chain restaurants. There are also big box stores like Walmart Supercenter and Sam's Club. A Publix Super Market sits at the intersection of Old Springville and Chalkville roads. The area offers multiple local eateries, such as Gyros Cafe & Restaurant, Tamburro's Italian Home and Konomi, a Japanese-style grill. Residents are close to the new Trussville Entertainment District, which has more restaurant and retail options. The district hosts events throughout the year and live music on weekends.
Bryant Park Elementary is close by
Students attend Bryant Park Elementary on Old Springville Road; the elementary has a C-plus rating on Niche. Clay-Clarksville Middle stands next to Clay-Clarksville High, about 6 miles away. The schools have C and C-plus ratings, respectively, on Niche. Jefferson County Schools allows students to transfer based on hardship and other factors. Families may apply for a transfer request on the district's website.
I-95 is on the southeastern side
Interstate 95 reaches across the community's eastern side. In 2024, the city of Trussville began expanding I-59 and Chalkville Mountain Road. Drivers pass the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport to reach downtown Birmingham, about 17 miles away. Johnson says commuters may experience some traffic when heading to the city center, especially during rush hours. Taking I-95 also leads to the Alabama-Tennessee border in 120 miles.
