Less than a mile east of the University of Northern Colorado, Alta Vista serves as a residence for college students and long-term Greeley residents alike. “There are a lot of investment opportunities in the area,” says Brian Franzen, a local real estate agent with eXp Realty. “It’s a popular area for UNC students, so some homes get flipped and turned into rental properties. It’s also a more affordable community compared to the suburbs in West Greeley.”

Rodeos and rides at the Greeley Stampede
The Greeley Stampede runs for around two weeks every summer and hosts a rodeo, carnival rides and live music, with prominent artists over the years, from Taylor Swift to Old Dominion. “The Greeley Stampede is the premier event in town every year,” says Chuck Bowles, a local Realtor with Austin & Austin Real Estate who has worked in the area for decades. “People who grew up here but moved away come back to town for the event. It’s almost like a class reunion.” Another popular summertime event is Friday Fest. “They close 9th Street to traffic and locals bring lawn chairs to listen to live music while enjoying a drink from one of the nearby bars,” Bowles says.
Locals of Alta Vista have access to the Greeley Farmers market happening weekly on Saturday.
Art, sports, and education is what gives Alta Vista its charm.

Celebrating Hispanic culture at UNC
Union Colony Elementary School and Brentwood Middle School earn C-plus overall grades from Niche. The B-rated Greeley Central High School has an advanced manufacturing pathway where students can earn manufacturing skills and post-secondary credits by taking courses like experimental design and engineering, industrial troubleshooting and process technology. Through AIMS Community College, participating students gain industry-relevant certifications. Greeley Central also hosts a performing and visual arts magnet program with an extended Advanced Placement fine arts curriculum. The University of Northern Colorado is just four blocks away from Alta Vista and serves over 12,000 students. The college is dedicated to supporting and celebrating its Hispanic and Latine-identifying community through events and scholarships and is federally recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution.
The popular university known as UNC resides right next to the neighborhood of Alta Vista.

Shops along 16th Street
A half mile north of the neighborhood, 16th Street is lined with small, locally run businesses. Margie’s Java Joint serves coffee, baked goods and brunch dishes and has handcrafted goods made by local artists. A few doors down, High Brau Taphouse opened in 2018 and a rotating selection of 30 beers brewed across Colorado. For Groceries, King Soopers and Save A Lot are a short drive south.

UNC sports facilities and the Poudre River Trail
The UNC Jackson Field Sports Complex is nearby and is home to soccer fields, a baseball diamond and the college’s ropes course. The Poudre River Trail can be accessed about 3 miles north of Alta Vista at the trailhead on North 11th Avenue. This paved path runs over 20 miles along the winding Poudre River through Greeley, Windsor and the southeast side of Fort Collins.
