This Northern Greensboro neighborhood was once a battlefield
What was once the site of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse during the Revolutionary War is now the thriving Northern Greensboro community of Battlefield. A reminder of its historic past, a cannon greets residents entering the neighborhood on Cotswold Terrace. Bisected by the Greensboro Urban Loop, the neighborhood is comprised of a mix of single-family homes, townhouse communities and apartment complexes. To the south, the Battleground Parks District spans right up to neighborhood backyards. Wayne Young, a real estate agent with Allen Tate Realtors, says this is a huge benefit to the community. “There’s a greenway attached to Battlefield Park, which connects to Country Park and will shortly be connected to Downtown Greensboro all the way to northern parts of Guilford County,” says Young, who lives in the neighborhood. In addition to ample green space, residents in this sought-after zip code have some of the city’s best schools and shopping centers within reach.
Monuments telling the story of Battlefield's history can be found in Guilford Courhouse Park.
Battlefield is a quiet suburban community only minutes from downtown Greensboro.

A blend of single-family homes and townhouses
Character is the cornerstone of single-family homes in Battlefield. Most were built in the 1970s, ranging from red brick ranch-style houses to Cape Cods with covered front porches and picturesque two-story Colonial Revivals. Properties are 1,400 to nearly 2,000 square feet in size. In the spring and summer, quarter-acre yards are colorful with white flowering Dogwoods, pink shrubs and red Japanese Maples. Townhouses here also come in a range of styles. Buyers can find two-story colonial-inspired designs and one-level brick ranch-style townhouses. There’s even a new, 21st-century luxury townhome community with attached garages. Housing prices can start under $200,000 for a two-bedroom townhouse and can reach nearly $400,000 for a four-bedroom colonial with a renovated interior and modern finishes. Like neighboring communities, homes here don’t stay on the market long, selling after 13 days on average.
The rich history of the area is seen even in the housing throughout the neighborhood.
From single story ranch style to large multilevel homes, Battlefield has it all.

Retail and restaurants along Battleground Avenue
Battlefield residents have a few shopping options, but locals particularly enjoy having a Trader Joe’s so close. Just a few miles west, the grocery store is in the heart of the Brassfield Shopping Center, with a Walmart Supercenter down the block. Young says hungry locals love to dine at Village Tavern, where an extensive menu of American fare is served in an inviting dining room featuring a stone fireplace and wooden beams. He says another local favorite is Elizabeth’s Pizza, known for its woodfired pizza and Italian cuisine. Residents can stop by Ozzie’s Ice Cream Shop for a sweet treat and try flavors like key lime pie and cotton candy.
