Deep into the rural outskirts of Greensboro is a quiet community defined by its idyllic landscape and country charm. Just under 15 miles south of the city’s center, the Burnetts Chapel/Coltrane Mill area is as rural as it gets in Greensboro. Its long, winding backroads are met by rolling farmlands and grazing animals. “This is a great area in the Southern section of Greensboro, and the market is really good right now,” says Realtor Tia Crouch of Allen Tate Realtors. “People moving out here are typically looking for some land, often for a farm and a space for horses or other animals.” Brad Moser, broker and owner of Broadleaf Realty, describes Burnetts Chapel/Coltrane Mill as a slower-paced area just beyond the city limits of High Point and Greensboro. “I live not far from there, just outside High Point, on about 3 acres. So, you can find that kind of land and still be within 30 minutes of Downtown Greensboro here, and it’s a lot more economical,” he says. Though this area has few amenities, most residents don’t mind the tradeoff for the extra elbow room.

Southwest Park is 1 to 5 miles from most homes, equaling a 5- to 10-minute drive, and rests right against the lake’s shores. This 513-acre waterfront park is somewhat of a hidden gem. It’s not often busy, but it offers something for the whole family: a dog park for pups, a playground for the kids, and baseball fields for youth games. Miles of trails wind through the forest surrounding the lake and are suitable for hiking and mountain biking. A marina was added to the park in March 2023, providing a public launch for personal boats as well as kayak and Jon boat rentals. Herons and turtles are just some of the species that call the protected wetlands around Randleman Lake home, but the marina is especially popular with fishermen looking to catch some bass off the pier.

Produce stands and shopping in Greensboro
Shopping and dining aren’t exactly readily accessible in this rural area. However, one major perk to living on farmland is having fresh produce close by. Bernie’s Berries at Kenan Farm is just up the road and has been providing homegrown, seasonal produce and pick-your-own strawberries since 1981. Bill’s Pizza Pub is another longtime staple near the neighborhood, equipped with a drive-thru window for picking up to-go orders and recognizable for its trademark square-sliced pizza. For weekly errands and other necessities, residents head 5 miles north to the shopping centers near Interstate 85 and Elm-Eugene Street in south Greensboro. A Walmart Supercenter, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Med First Primary & Urgent Care and multiple chain restaurants all cluster near the highway. Other shops and restaurants can be found in Randleman, Archdale or High Point.

Burnett’s Chapel Church is a local cornerstone
Burnetts Chapel Christian Church sits right on the neighborhood's edge and is notable for its historic significance. Reverend Albert Passmore Burnett founded the Baptist church in 1912. It was initially used as a school for local African American children at a time when few schools served this rural area. Interstate 73 runs along the neighborhood's eastern edge and connects to Interstate 85 to the north. “In the Piedmont Triad, we don’t really get traffic jams,” Moser notes. Downtown Greensboro and High Point are roughly 10-15 miles away, while Winston-Salem is approximately 30 miles northwest. Access to I-73 provides a direct route to Piedmont Triad International Airport, about 20 miles north.
