Secluded, forested Greensboro suburb receiving new attention

Accessible only from Sharpe Road, Englewood Forest is a secluded and stand-alone enclave on Greensboro’s southeast side. Though the neighborhood has traditionally fallen under the radar, the care and attention displayed by homeowners is starting to attract a new wave of buyers. “That section of Greensboro is looking better than ever before,” says Alexander Carvajal, owner of Carvajal Realty, who has been selling homes for 18 years. “People have been taking better care of their properties and keeping their houses clean since home values have gone up.” A big part of the neighborhood’s appeal is its comfortable distance from retail, industry and the city center. “My clients wanted to live in that neighborhood because it’s not out of town, but it’s away from the action of downtown,” says F. Dorrell Jackson, Realtor with Keller Williams. Jackson, who has 7 years of real estate experience, also notes that the neighborhood is popular with alumni from North Carolina A&T State University, located just 5 miles north.

Ranch-style homes blend into a mature forest

Englewood Forest is a suburban community true to its name, with mid-20th-century housing seamlessly blending into the thick of a rich, green forest. Most homes follow ranch-style designs, with occasional split-levels and Colonial Revivals. Houses usually date back to the 1960s through the ‘70s—the median square footage hovers around 1,600, a bit below the national average of 1,900. A few homes off Beaverbrook and Yorkshire drives allow residents to enjoy views of a small pond from their backyards. Almost all detached homes go between $200,000 and $300,000.
