Green suburbs near restaurants and shopping hubs
Fairview Homes is a residential neighborhood in west Greensboro. The community offers a slice of suburbia, with grassy, green front lawns and tall, bushy trees forming the backdrop. Interstate 40, a major east-west highway, sits just north, while the sprawling, three-story Four Seasons Town Centre mall is just up West Gate City Boulevard, offering retailers, restaurants and entertainment. Beyond convenience, relative affordability also attracts buyers to the community, the median single-family home price standing at $130,000, which is well below Greensboro’s median of $300,000.

Smaller homes immersed in greenery
Brick ranchers line Bellhaven Drive, Mosby Drive and Hatchet Plaza, while bungalows and Minimal Traditional builds sit along West Avenue and Green Point Drive. Most homes were constructed between the 1940s and the ‘60s. Some homes have considerable privacy from the street thanks to thick evergreen trees, though most every resident has a forest for a back yard. Few homes have detached or attached garages, and driveways are usually one car wide and long enough to accommodate two to three automobiles. The average square footage of a home roughly stands at 1,100, well below the national average of about 1,900. Detached homes tend to sell between $125,000 and $250,000, while attached condos usually go from $100,000 to $125,000. However, the market is usually quiet. “It’s hard to find anything in Greensboro below the $150,000 to $180,000 mark,” says Vickie Henry, Realtor with Zenith Real Estate who has been in the business for 23 years. “This makes Fairview Homes popular with first-time buyers and investors.” Several apartment complexes also sit within the neighborhood, and the vast majority of residents are renters. Fairview Homes’ CAP Index crime score is 8 out of 10, a bit higher than the national average of 4. In other categories such as violent crime, the neighborhood scores a 7 or above.

Shopping plazas, international groceries and unique restaurants
Shopping centers sit along West Gate City Boulevard. Stores include Walmart Neighborhood Market, American Furniture Warehouse and Conn’s HousePlus, an appliance and furniture store. Li Ming’s Global Mart specializes in East Asian groceries, while El Mercadito provides residents with Latin American groceries, meals and baked goods. Foodies will find plenty of eating options along this main drag as well. Once a chain spanning the Southeast, Darryl’s is a casual restaurant and bar popular for their American cuisine, handcrafted beers and creatively decorated interior which features a chandelier, mezzanine, brass instruments and repurposed Ferris wheel seats. On the other hand, the nostalgic interior and classic American comfort food of Jake’s Diner takes patrons back to the 1950s. Less than a mile east of Fairview Homes, Four Seasons Town Centre offers three stories of retailers and restaurants, along with a bowling alley, cinema and arcade.

The facility is less than a mile down West Gate City Boulevard and rentable for parties. Alternatively, residents can make it a bowling party by renting a few lanes at AMF All Star Lanes just up South Holden Road. Homes are less than 4 miles away from two prominent country clubs: Sedgefield and Starmount Forest. Starmount Forest’s Bermudagrass golf course has hosted the United States Women’s Open and other championships in the past, while Sedgefield’s Donald Ross-designed course has been the location of the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship since 2008.
