Hackett Lake
Suburban Neighborhood in Greensboro, North Carolina

Modest homes on large lots
Residential pockets are uncommon in Hackett Lake, and homes tend to sit far apart, some surrounded by flat, grassy lawns and others by mature trees. The median lot size is one acre. Houses are either situated on rural roads or quiet, dead-end streets. Homes tend to be smaller, with a median square footage of around 1,350. Midcentury ranch-style builds are the most common, with a few Cape Cods and minimal Traditionals. With a housing stock of just under 100, homes rarely come up for sale, but prices typically range between $100,000 and $300,000 when they do.Teeing off at Gillespie Golf Course and other outdoor adventures
Hackett Lake, the community’s namesake, may be a prominent body of water within the neighborhood, but it’s off-limits for recreation. However, according to Realtor Roger Abbott with Keller Williams Central, the lake acts as a source of drinking water, so residents can’t swim or boat in it. Just north of the neighborhood on the other side of I-40, Barber Park features a baseball field and an indoor sports pavilion with tennis, basketball and volleyball facilities. An 18-hole disc golf course is available for public use here, along with walking trails, a brightly colored playground and a small splash park open in the summer. The park is often buzzing with summer activity, from concerts at the amphitheater to baseball games at the stadium. Operated by a local nonprofit, Gateway Gardens is a botanical reserve that invites visitors to stroll winding paths lined with themed topiaries, admire colorful flower gardens and enjoy summertime concerts. Gillespie Golf Course sits about 4 miles west, though the grounds are closed for repairs. In the meantime, golfers can play the 18 holes at Forest Oaks Country Club, 6 miles to the south.Guilford County Schools and top-ranked HBCU

A portion of the grant is planned to upgrade the school’s e-therapy space by installing sensory boxes for students. North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University, a historically Black university, is 4 miles to the northwest. Niche ranks the university as the fifth-best HBCU school in the nation. The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is about 5 miles west.Hanging out at the North Carolina Folk Festival
