Jefferson Gardens is a woodsy world of its own. A flourishing forest encloses this small Western Greensboro suburb with a single entrance at the corner of Bennington Drive and Jefferson Road. The neighborhood has its own peaceful little pocket in Greensboro, and all the necessary amenities are within a few miles. Convenience is everything in Western Greensboro. While Jefferson Gardens is in a quiet corner, it’s only a matter of minutes before residents are by the buzz of busy shopping centers and roads. "It's great because you get peace and quiet, but you aren't far from civilization," says Claudia Valencia, a Realtor with Magnolia Tree Realty.

Getting around
Jefferson Road borders the neighborhood’s east edge and leads commuters to Joseph M. Bryan Boulevard, a main road that’ll take commuters to major highways, making it easy to get to Greensboro employers. Piedmont Triad International Airport is only a short distance west of the neighborhood, just a 10-minute drive away. Public transportation is available just south of Jefferson Gardens, with several bus stops scattered along West Friendly Avenue.

Most houses in Jefferson Gardens date back to the 1960s and 1970s, with midcentury modern designs. There are also classic ranch-style homes with traditional and mansard roofing and brick or stone foundations. The options continue with split levels and colonial revivals priced between $250,000 and $400,000. While no house is the same, one thing is consistent — woodsy yards. With Jefferson Gardens surrounded by a small but dense forest, trees trickle into most third-acre yards. Young students generally start at Jefferson Elementary, an above-average school with an overall Niche grade of B. Students can join a few clubs and organizations, like Battle of the Books and the Student Council. Next, kids attend Guilford Middle School, which has an overall Niche grade of B-minus. Teenagers attend Western Guilford High School, which has an overall Niche grade of B and is ranked the fourth-best standout high school in the Greensboro area. The school was the first to offer the AP Capstone Program in North Carolina, known as The Advanced Placement Academy. The Academy allows students to enroll in college-level courses, getting a jump start on their post-secondary education.

Book reading and bird watching
Locals enjoy the natural outdoors at Carriage Hills Park. The pocket park is over a mile east and has a playground for kids. While the kids have fun, there are a few picnic tables and benches to relax and some open green space next to the playground. There’s also a great nearby spot to get acquainted with the area’s wildlife. Price Park is outside Jefferson Gardens and is known for its Meadowlark preservation efforts and butterfly garden. You can see the Eastern Meadowlark bird among various other birds and butterflies. The park also features a circular nature trail leading to a library. "The Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Library isn't your average library," says Valencia. "It's just beautiful outside, such a lovely place to sit and enjoy the nice weather." A part of Price Park’s 98 acres and away from most roads, the library affords a peaceful retreat. If the weather permits, ample outdoor seating allows visitors to relax outside and enjoy a good read. The library has several computers and Wi-Fi for locals who need to work in a quiet spot outside their homes.

Explore Quaker Village
Shopping options abound in every direction. A short drive south is Quaker Village — a bustling shopping mall with a Walmart Neighborhood Market. Head north, and there are two shopping centers: Jefferson Village Shopping Center and New Garden Crossing. Each features well-known grocery and retail stores like Target, Marshalls and The Fresh Market. Hungry locals enjoy breakfast at New Garden Bagel Co., dinner at Lemon Indian Cuisine or dessert at Cold Stone Creamery.
