Greentown is a short drive from North Canton amenities
Greentown is a highly residential community within Lake Township. Realtor Chad Haidet says residents love the area because of its “hometown feel.” “A lot of it has to do with the peace and serenity of feeling like you’re in a city when you’re not,” he says. “The lot sizes are bigger, you have a little bit more privacy and freedom in that area, but you’re also not far from a lot of things.” North Canton and Hartville are within 5 miles of Greentown, meaning residents have a wide selection of local businesses and major retailers. Interstate 77 is nearby and leads about 20 miles to Akron.
Diverse housing includes century-old homes and condos built after 2000
Sidewalks line many of the residential roads of Greentown, especially where there is new construction. Towering oak trees shade trimmed, grassy lawns. “That area has a lot of diversity in it,” Haidet says. “They have single-family homes, duplexes and triplexes.” Several properties date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including Colonial Revivals and Foursquares. Mid-20th-century homes include ranch-style houses and split-levels, and there are many New Traditional residences with colonial and Craftsman influences built as recently as the 2020s. Depending on size and condition, most properties range from $150,000 to $500,000. There are standalone condo units, which cost $250,000 to $340,000.
North Canton schools are highly rated by Niche
Greentown is part of the North Canton City School District. North Canton Primary School offers kindergarten through second grade, while third through fifth graders attend North Canton Intermediate School. At North Canton Middle School, eighth graders take an annual trip to Washington, DC. All three schools earn an A from Niche. Hoover High School receives a B-plus and has career and technical education courses, including welding and biomedical sciences.
Car-dependent community is near Akron-Canton Airport
Greentown residents rely on cars to get around. The closest highway is Interstate 77, which has an on-ramp about 3 miles away at Akron-Canton Airport. The airport offers nonstop service to over 20 destinations; flights are rarely heard from homes. “I think if anything, people look at the airport as a positive because if they have to get picked up or dropped off, it’s quicker,” Haidet says. Summa Health Green Medical Center is about 5 miles away.
Recreation includes the local park and Lake Community YMCA
At Greentown Community Park, amenities include a playground, basketball and tennis courts and a horseshoe pit. Many locals join the Lake Community YMCA, which has a full gym and pool. Besides offering fitness classes and swim lessons, the Y hosts the Lakes Active Older Adults, a group that holds game nights, picnics and lunch and learns. “Everybody loves the Lake YMCA,” Haidet says. “It’s probably the biggest recreation space out there.” It is about 4 miles away, located inside the Lake Community Center, which also houses the local library and the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital Health Center.
Residents travel to North Canton for shopping and dining
Unless they want pizza from one of the two eateries in Greentown, East of Chicago and Bob’s Pizza, residents travel to nearby cities for a bite to eat. Haidet recommends The Twisted Olive, an Italian restaurant in North Canton. Walthers Twin Tavern is a bar and grill that serves burgers, fish sandwiches and other American fare. During the summer, it hosts a monthly Rib Burnoff and has a bakery pop-up sale. A convenience store in the area sells some essentials, but people head to Marc’s or Aldi in North Canton for groceries. Walmart, Lowe’s and Target are also in North Canton, all about 7 miles away.
