Grosse Pointe residents explore the neighborhood
A bustling downtown retail center, large homes with spacious yards and views of Lake St. Clair make Grosse Pointe a popular neighborhood. Residents are 9 miles away from Downtown Detroit, making it easy to commute into the area for annual car show events or to explore the restaurants there. “What can I say about Grosse Pointe, it sells itself,” says Lynne Juanita Summers, a senior specialist and relocation expert with Rivers Realty Group. “Living in the neighborhood means resort-style living all year long. You’re outside water skiing, boating, swimming and fishing in the summer and ice-fishing, skating and skiing practically in your own backyard.” Locals have options when they want to get out of the house and have fun, either shopping at The Village, boating on Lake St. Clair or supporting locally owned restaurants on Kercheval Avenue.

Shopping at The Village
Residents don’t have to go far to find popular dining and shopping destinations. The Village in Downtown Grosse Point features popular shops like Ann Taylor Loft and Chico’s, as well as other locally owned spots like the Savvy Chic Boutique and Glitter & Scotch. Shoppers can leave their cars at the Village Parking Garage before walking down Saint Clair Avenue to the Sidecar Slider Bar. The Side Street Diner serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in a retro-themed setting. “There are so many, and each restaurant has its own atmosphere,” says Mary Lynn Martin, a local librarian. “People like to visit good restaurants close to home.” For even more options, residents drive down Kercheval Avenue to stop into the Dirty Dog Jazz Café for live music and bistro fare or Flyleaf to find a good book to enjoy with a cocktail. When residents want to cook at home, they pick up essential ingredients at Kroger, Fresh Farms Market or Trader Joe’s.
