Orange Grove offers singe family homes near Gulfport's amenities
The community of Orange Grove, located north of Gulfport’s beaches, has plenty of single-family homes with access to shopping, dining and various attractions. Buyers have multiple housing styles and subdivisions to pick from, but properties are primarily close together with smaller lots. Oak and magnolia trees can be typical lawn decorations. Orange Grove is also within commuting distance to job centers such as the Naval Construction Battalion Center. “It's considered north Gulfport, basically that is where everyone is trying to be at, and [it's] mostly military personnel trying to be close to the Seabee base,” says Carl Watson, a Realtor with Busch Realty Group, who sells in the community.
A wide variety of single-family homes with an HOA presence
Ranch styles, bungalows and cottages can range from $100,000 to $350,000, while New Traditions, Greek Revivals and Italianates cost anywhere from $380,000 to $750,000. Prices depend on factors such as age, location and condition. Townhomes are also available. Homeowner’s associations do oversee some properties. Watson says the community has attracted a mix of retirees, families and workers. This includes members of the military and health care industry. Singing River Gulfport Hospital is in the neighborhood on Community Road. According to Federal Emergency Management Agency maps, the community is at risk of flooding, especially near local creeks. Hurricanes and severe storms are also factors. A train line runs along the western end of Orange Grove, causing noise.
Orange Grove students zoned for multiple public schools
Students are zoned for multiple public schools, including Bel Aire Elementary or Crossroads Elementary, both graded B on Niche. Harrison Central Elementary has a B-minus. They can continue to B-rated North Gulfport Middle School or West Harrison Middle, which earns an A. Pupils can finish at Harrison Central High School, graded B or A-ranked West Harrison High. Both schools offer technical education in the health science and construction industries.
Easy highway and interstate access
The community does not have any public transport links and is primarily car dependent. The entrance to Interstate 10 is on the southern end of Orange Grove on U.S. Highway 49. Gulfport’s Amtrak station will reopen in August, providing rail service to Mobile, Alabama, and New Orleans. Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is 5 miles south.
Multiple green spaces to enjoy with coastal fun just south of the area
The 40-acre Goldin Sports Complex features multiple baseball and softball diamonds, sports courts, and football fields. Clarence Johnson Memorial Park also has baseball fields, a splash pad and walking paths. The Orange Grove Community Center features a rentable hall and a playground. The Gulf Islands Waterpark, west of the neighborhood, has multiple rides and waterslides, but only opens during Summer. Bayou Vista Golf Course, south of Orange Grove, is open to the public and has a 5,900-yard, Par 71 layout. Beachside attractions and adult entertainment at the Island View Casino are 7 miles south.
Multiple eateries and shopping locations line U.S. 49
Restaurants are concentrated along U.S. 49 and include multiple chains and independent spots. Sicily’s Pizza serves soups, salads and pasta dishes. The Pour House has burgers, wings and bar games like pool and darts. Siam Thai Cuisine has authentic soups, curries and noodle dishes. Shopping locations are also on U.S. 49. Retail and department stores, including Belk and Bealls, are at the Crossroads Center near the entrance to I-10. Grocery and big-box stores include Sam’s Club, Walmart Neighborhood Market and Food Giant.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
