About Haddon Township, NJ

About Haddon Township, NJ

Haddon Township is a suburban community of Camden on the eastern shore of the Delaware River. The town was established around the end of the Revolutionary War and has since been divided into several smaller communities and municipalities. Stylish suburban streets blend with a bustling and revitalized commercial district with schools, parks and downtown areas accessible via metro stations and major thoroughfares.

Here you'll find a community of traditional suburban tracts and small-town commercial thoroughfares. Most local businesses and the Port Authority Transit Corporation station are located along Haddon Avenue, which runs right through the town center and runs west for six miles into downtown Camden. Haddon Township's restructuring and proximity to Camden and Philadelphia doesn't diminish its small-town charm. Most of the homes in the area are single-family houses built before the 1980s, with a handful of town houses and condominiums also available. Owing to the community's Revolutionary-era establishment, symmetrical Colonial and Colonial revival houses are a common sight in the township. More contemporary split-level and ranch-style houses are also common; both styles share similar characteristics, like simple open floor plans and plain asymmetrical facades, while the former style has a second story that is cantilevered over the first to maximize square footage without increasing the size of the home lot. Most homes feature large front and back yards, large windows and both paved driveways and street parking. Haddon Township's home prices range from $275,000 for homes between 1,100 and 2,000 square feet to as much as $725,000 or more for homes larger than 2,000 square feet.

The Haddon Township has its own school district, sending public school students to begin their academic journeys at primary schools like Clyde S. Jennings Elementary. This school has an overall A-minus Niche rating and teaches from kindergarten through fifth grade. Students move on to intermediate and secondary institutions such as William G. Rohrer Middle and Haddon Township High School. Both schools have overall B-plus Niche ratings, and the latter high school has a cross-country team that has won 21 state championships and extracurricular organizations, including branches of the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America.

Local parks and performing arts centers give locals places to get active and creatively express themselves. Cooper River Park is a vast green area along the eponymous river, with over 345 acres of wetlands, bike paths, wildlife trails and expansive athletic fields, including a cross-country course and a mini-golf course. Newton Lake Park is another expansive green space with open fields and walking trails perfect for dog walking and playsets for the kids to enjoy. Enjoy a production at The Ritz Theatre Company, which has been home to youth programs, education programs and an eclectic lineup of mainstage productions for the last 35 years.

The revitalization of Haddon Township has resulted in a lively business district home to excellent restaurants and retailers. Grocery stores like Sprouts Farmers Market will keep your kitchen stocked with fresh ingredients, produce and bulk foodstuffs, while department stores like Target offer clothes, home goods and toiletries. Start your day at McMillan's Bakery, a local bakeshop that has been open since 1939, dishing out their signature cream-filled donuts as well as a selection of specialty pastries and cakes. Keg and Kitchen is another neighborhood establishment, a rustic pub adorned with reclaimed driftwood tables, dishing out craft brews and elevated pub fare. Have a date night at Giumarello's Restaurant, a family-owned restaurant specializing in Northern Italian dishes, along with an extensive wine list, all for enjoying in a lively bar or warm-weather patio.

Come home to small-town charm and a thriving community in Haddon Township.
