Hager's Crossing
Neighborhood in Hagerstown, Maryland
Washington County 21740
Townhomes and single-family homes from the early 2000s
Colonial Revival and farmhouse-inspired homes are the most prominent styles in the Hager's Crossing community. Townhouses are found on the neighborhood’s eastern end, and larger single-family homes are located to the west. Most of the homes were built after 2000 and are set closer to the street, allowing for access to the shared parking lot or personal garages. “The area is pretty newly constructed and is full of those modern suburban homes you see all over,” says Nicolette Meiron, administrative assistant at Hager Elementary, who has been in the area for over three years. Often, backyards open out to the community or are contained by clean white fences. Prices can range between $300,000 and $400,000 for townhouses, and single-family homes often run from $400,000 to $650,000.Hager's Crossing Community Center and nearby green spaces
The Hager's Crossing Community Center is the primary source of recreation reserved for neighborhood residents. The center features several amenities, including a pool, tennis courts, a fitness center and rentable clubhouse. On the community's eastern end, Heiskell Park has half of a basketball court and year-round soccer goals. A paved trail in the park snakes behind houses, leading to a bright green playground and swing set.Jonathan Hager Elementary School and Washington County Public Schools
Students can start their education at Hager Elementary, which earns a B-plus rating on Niche and is about a 10-minute walk from many neighborhood homes. They can then continue to Western Heights Middle School, rated a B-minus, before finishing up at the B-rated South Hagerstown High School. The school, one of five high schools in Hagerstown, has a fierce rivalry with North Hagerstown High School during football season.Block parties and Hagerstown events
The Hagerstown area has several annual events; one of the largest is the South End Community Block Party. Each September, people head to Hagerstown City Park for live music, food, laser tag and pony rides. Residents can also attend concerts in University Park, and the Historic City Farmers Market hosts more frequent programs. “You can see signs up all around the city when events are coming up,” Meiron says. The Flying Boxcars, Hagerstown’s minor league baseball team, played their first season in 2024 at the newly constructed Meritus Park.Nearby Hagerstown interstates and U.S. Routes
Sidewalks line almost every street in Hager's Crossing. “Out of all of our students, it seems like about half of them walk, and the other half drive to school each day," Meiron says. "It’s a healthy mix of both for most people in the area." U.S. Route 40, which runs along the neighborhood's southern end, takes residents southeast to downtown Hagerstown. That road intersects Interstate 81, which connects the community to the Hagerstown Regional Airport, less than 5 miles north, and the Valley Mall, 5 miles south. The Meritus Medical Center is less than 6 miles southeast. The Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is about 83 miles away.Shopping at the Centre at Hagerstown
Many retail and dining options are located at the nearby Centre at Hagerstown. This shopping mall houses multiple big name stores, such as HomeGoods and Ulta Beauty, as well as a Walmart Supercenter. The mall is also home to several popular chain restaurants like IHOP and KFC. Downtown Hagerstown, about 3 miles away, offers some locally owned options. These include German cuisine at Schmankerl Stube and pub fare at Broad Axe.
