Just outside of the Mount Lena neighborhood lies the Mason Dixon Dragway. The track has been in the area since 1961 and still rumbles with excitement as the oldest drag racing site in the state. Events occur at the track almost every week, from gambler’s races with cash prizes for the winners, to test-n-tune races for prospective drivers. Residents head to Shafer Park in nearby Boonsboro for free events such as The Independence Day Celebration each July and the Boonesborough Days in September. U.S. Route 40, also known as National Pike, runs through the neighborhood, allowing for a 16-mile drive to Fredrick and a 7-mile commute to Hagerstown. The community is much more car-friendly than neighboring areas, but plenty of parks and trails are nearby so that residents can get their daily steps in. Interstate 70 is just to the east of the neighborhood, and a trip to Baltimore is about 65 miles to the east. The Metrius Medical Center is less than 7 miles away in Hagerstown, and the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is in Baltimore.The Lodge and nearby Boonsboro retail
The Lodge is the only bar in the community and is one of the more well-known gay bars in Maryland. The bar offers music, numerous weekly performances and shows by some of the country’s best-known drag queens. There are dining options in Boonsboro, including Asian cuisine at China Ocean and fresh pies at Jeovani’s Pizzeria, a popular meeting spot during the local high school’s football season. Residents can shop at the Weis Market 5 miles away or the Boonsboro's Farmers Market every Tuesday from May to October.
