An anonymous country crossroads in Western Maryland
There is not much to tell about Pinesburg, the small rural community on the outskirts of both Boonsboro and Hagerstown in Western Maryland. A small collection of homes and family-owned businesses line the two-lane country highway that slices through it, surrounded by the vast rural expanse of Washington County. On the rare occasion that Pinesburg comes up in conversation, folks are most likely to hear mention of the auto salvage yard, the generational mechanic business and the quarry to the southwest. The quarry frequently draws the ire of the solitude-loving residents, who are put off by the disruptive sound of trucks rumbling down Bottom Road with their cargo. The south of the neighborhood traces the banks of the Potomac River, where cross-country hikers and bikers pass by on their way to rest in Williamsport. As new development springs up around the rest of the county, time seems to imitate those wanderers on the Potomac Trail and passes Pinesburg by.
