Between history and convenience in Washington County
Tiilghmanton is a neighborhood rising from a stretch of farmland in the south of Washington County, Maryland. “Tilghmanton has a lot of farm homes,” says Molly Marsh-Riley, a sales associate with Marsh Realty who has been licensed since 2013. “It’s either those or ranch-styles on half-acre lots. There’s just a more rural feel there.” Despite this country solitude, the community sits about halfway between Sharpsburg to the south and Hagerstown to the north. Boonsboro’s main drag, peppered with restaurants and retail, is also within a manageable distance, meaning that residents are always close to conveniences when they want to be. The canal towpath along the banks of the Potomac River affords outdoor recreation opportunities, while Antietam National Battlefield just down the road lends the area a historic atmosphere. All this helps to make Tilghmanton a country retreat in the middle of all Western Maryland has to offer.

Clusters of homes along Sharpsburg Pike
Homes in Tilghmanton are concentrated around Maryland Route 65, also known as Sharpsburg Pike, the two-lane country highway that knifes through the center of the neighborhood. Colonial Revival homes built in the mid-1800s sit on mid-size lots, set back from the road by short walkways and porches. These tend to cost anywhere from $70,000 to about $150,000 depending on the status of renovations. Midcentury ranch-styles and split-levels are more common on the southern side of the neighborhood and along McClellan Avenue. They tend to feature longer driveways and larger front and backyards adorned with mature trees. In these winding subdivisions, prices range from around $290,000 to almost $400,000.

There are also multiple access points to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath within a couple of miles of Tilghmanton. This trail spans a total distance of 185 miles and traces the path of the Potomac River from Cumberland all the way to Washington, D.C.
