Hales Corners, an affordable community

Hales Corners is a Milwaukee County suburb with dining, retail and outdoor recreational access. “The community is more affordable than nearby areas like Brookfield and Pewaukee,” says Michelle Campbell, a realtor for Coldwell Banker Realty who has sold homes in the area for 12 years. Hales Corners is a bedroom community, and many residents commute to Milwaukee. “You have all the services of a big city,” Campbell says. “It’s close to the airports, the freeways and Milwaukee’s downtown.” Hales Corners often holds community events that allow locals to bond during the holidays. “A lot of people who live there have lived there for their whole lives,” Campbell says.

Early 20th-century and mid-century homes

In the northwest quadrant of the village, three-bedroom 1950s ranch-style homes are valued between $250,000 and $320,000. Within walking distance of Wehr Nature Center, 1980s three-bedroom ranch-style homes are valued between $330,000 and $500,0000. In the northeast quadrant of the village, 1930s four-bedroom Cape Cod homes are valued between $430,000 and $530,000. “The homes are unique. Many are custom, so it’s not like a regular subdivision with cookie-cutter homes,” Campbell says. Alongside Highway 100, also known as Lovers Lane, a 1930s four-bedroom Mediterranean Renaissance-style home is accessed at $210,000. Along Janesville Road, a 1920s four-bedroom brick home is accessed at $370,000.

Most locals shop and dine along Lovers Lane, which bisects the community. People buy tools, gardening supplies and building materials at Menards. The Hale House serves burgers and craft beer in an industrial-chic environment. Residents enjoy red snapper, salmon and tiger rolls at Lovers Lane Sushi and Seafood Buffet.
