Smaller New England-style homes on quiet, sidewalked streets
The median single-family home price in Lansdowne is about $325,000, which is relatively lower than in Linthicum Heights and Catonsville, but higher than nearby Cherry Hill and Lakeland. “There are definitely a lot of older homes in Lansdowne with those classic New England styles and a lot of cool and unique architecture,” says Malcolm Lawson, Realtor with Real Broker and author of the blog LivingInMaryland.com. “With those more established neighborhoods, you’ll see a lot more mature trees and families that have lived here a long time.” Homebuyers can expect a selection of Cape Cods, colonial-inspired builds and two-story workers’ cottages, each with their own style of brick chimneys, vinyl siding and small front porches.Lansdowne's nearby shopping centers, family-owned restaurants and pubs
Lansdowne may not be known for its shopping and dining scene, but its two local favorites – Lansdowne Inn and Just One More bar and grill – give residents somewhere to hang out only a few blocks from home. Most shoppers head over to Washington Boulevard to reach Walmart and its surrounding stores and chain restaurants. Diners can also head east to Annapolis Road in the Baltimore Highlands community to reach pubs and local carry-out spots like Shannon’s Pub & Grille or John’s Italian Deli.Patapsco River trails, local parks and playgrounds
Close to Lansdowne are a few branches of the Patapsco State Park and the Patapsco River. “There are some beautiful outdoor areas there. Paved walking trails through the woods, the riverfront, picnic areas... it’s a whole network of really great parks,” Lawson says. Lansdowne Park is located across the street from an industrial lot and consists of a large grassy field and a walking path. Hillcrest Park has a playground and a small pond next to the Lansdowne Baltimore Highlands Senior Center, while Willow Grove Park consists of two basketball courts tucked behind residential houses.Baltimore County Public Schools
Students in Lansdowne attend Baltimore County Public Schools, like Lansdowne Elementary School and Riverview Elementary School, which are both graded a C-plus on Niche. Lansdowne Middle School and Lansdowne High School both earn a C.Commutes to downtown Baltimore and the nearby BWI Airport
Residents living in Lansdowne benefit from fast access to Interstate 95 and Route 295. “Living in this area means having an easy commute to a lot of big companies in Baltimore, such as Under Armor, as well as Fort Meade and NSA and NASA facilities,” Lawson says. However, “BWI isn’t far from there and because it’s an international airport it is pretty busy,” Lawson says. “There are some neighborhoods that are close to those takeoff pads so it’s possible homeowners will experience noise.” Lawson recommends spending a day in the area, whether visiting shops or driving around, to gauge possible noise levels. Johns Hopkins Hospital is about 9 miles north via Interstate 95 and can take about 30 minutes to reach, depending on traffic.Crime in Lansdowne
