About Haltom City, TX

DFW suburb offers affordability, central location

Just northeast of Fort Worth and 30 miles west of Dallas, Haltom City is a Cowtown suburb that’s just the right fit for many North Texas families. Here, quiet residential streets with well-sized lots offer single-family housing that’s relatively affordable for the metroplex. Kids attend well-rated schools in the Birdville Independent School District, parkland is plentiful and the city has a diverse and cherished food scene. Residents like that it’s central to DFW, offering access to anywhere in the metroplex without being in the chaos of a bigger city. The population is a steady 45,000, as the area has yet to be affected by the rapid growth seen in many other DFW suburbs. Still, there has been recent development, both commercially and residentially. “Haltom City is having a resurgence,” says Realtor Elizabeth Lane, who’s sold real estate in the area for over 14 years. “There’s a lot of new development that’s happening.”

Easy access to anywhere in DFW

Haltom City is northeast of Fort Worth, about five miles from downtown Fort Worth and 30 miles from Dallas. “In the DFW metroplex, Haltom City is one of the central locations, so it has easy access to the main highways that get you everywhere,” Lane says. Haltom City residents have convenient access to the DFW Airport, about 25 miles away, and Medical City North Hills, four miles away. Fort Worth’s Trinity Metro bus runs down Beach Street on the western edge of the city, and the TEXRail to the DFW Airport stops at Mercantile Center Station.

Dining at local eateries and shopping at North East Mall

Haltom City has a vibrant and diverse food scene: residents enjoy burgers and fries at Griff’s, Texas-sized comfort food at Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House, shrimp cocktails at Mariscos La Marea and traditional Thai and Lao dishes at Sikhay. They can shop for groceries at specialty stores like Ocean Seafood Market, Fort Worth’s Farmer’s Market and La Mexicana Meat Market, as well as traditional supermarkets like Albertsons, ALDI and El Rancho, and the town has recently broken ground on its first H Mart. A Walmart gives residents access to retail essentials, and for additional shopping, they drive about 10 minutes to North East Mall, an indoor mall with over 140 stores.

Expansive parks and nearby golf courses

Buffalo Ridge Park and North Park are the city's largest public green spaces, the former sitting on 95 acres along Big Fossil Creek and the latter’s 45 acres containing a playground, athletic fields and a disc golf course. Smaller parks sprinkled throughout the city, like Little Fossil Park and Springdale Park, allow many residents to walk to a playground and a picnic table. Some take a swing at the public Iron Horse Golf Club or private Diamond Oaks Country Club, and many enjoy RollerWorld NorthEast, a roller-skating rink hosting birthday parties and a weekly adult skate night.

Ranch-style and new traditional homes

Housing in Haltom City consists primarily of 20th-century ranch-style homes and bungalows. However, a recent influx of development has seen the addition of many new traditional single-family homes and townhouses. Haltom City has quiet, family-friendly residential streets: most homes have ample front yard space, and large trees tend to shade the city's sidewalks. Lane says the price of housing is one major reason homebuyers look in Haltom City, with the area being relatively more affordable than many other parts of DFW. Prices fall between $200,000 for a small starter home and $450,000 for a four-bedroom new build, though most listings are far below that. The median overall price in Haltom City is about $270,000.

Gregory Ness

Hello my name is Gregory, you can call me Greg. I am an investor friendly real estate agent, looking to help more investors buy and sell their next flip or rental purchase. I love to be able to look back and see the before and after pictures of a house after a flip and know that in some small way I played a part in bringing new life back into a neighborhood. The transformation from to an ugly house to a beautiful home is what makes it all worth it for me.
