Situated on the southern outskirts of the state capital of Trenton, the Central Jersey suburban community of Yardville encompasses hundreds of residences located along twisting side-streets and with easy access to two of the region’s most important highways. With proximity to the historic attractions of Hamilton Township and its own selection of restaurants and natural activities, Yardville offers small-town charm and conveniences within its borders.

Yardville’s history stretches back to the colonial period, and the community has since evolved from farmland into a commuter suburb of both the state capital of Trenton and the New York metropolitan area. A reminder of this long history can be found at the Grafton House, once home to Mercer County’s first sheriff and a former 166-are estate, and now an events venue. This home is just one of three historic residences in Hamilton Township, and lovers of history and architecture will find plenty of opportunities to learn from the Civil War and Revolutionary War museums housed in these buildings.

Housing styles in Yardville speak to this neighborhood’s evolution, with colonial-style homes paying homage to Yardville’s colonial roots, and 1950s residences and more recently built houses reflecting the suburban boom experienced by Yardville and the rest of Hamilton in the mid-20th century. These homes have an average price of $380,000, well below the state average of $500,000.

Yardville is located close to many of the region’s major attractions, from parks to museums and historic homes. Evan Levow of Levow DWI Law, who has written extensively about the Yardville area, shares, “When the weather is nice and you’re in the mood to spend some time outside, consider visiting John A. Roebling Memorial Park…Visitors can hike along well-maintained trails, go kayaking and even go fishing in Spring Lake.” Kayakers often find themselves paddling down Crosswicks Creek, which runs along Yardville’s southern border. Outdoorsy kids can recreate at Switlik Park’s playground or play baseball at Sunnybrae Park’s two fields, while nautically inclined residents can enjoy fishing on the peaceful Gropp Lake.

While Yardville is a small town, it includes a small central business district at a five-way intersection, where locals can shop for groceries at the ACME grocery store. Along Route 524, Villaggio Iccara serves Italian classics such as pizza and pasta within a rustic interior, while Diamond’s offers its own selection of Italian dishes with an upscale twist; diners can enjoy seafood and steak in a white tablecloth setting for a fancy night out. For another culinary and cultural adventure, one can visit Sun Lok Garden, which serves heaping portions of Chinese American classics such as General Tso’s chicken in a Chinese-themed interior complete with dragon artwork and traditional lanterns.

Yardville’s students attend one of three elementary schools, as well as the Albert E. Grice Middle School and Hamilton West High School.

Commuters traveling into Philadelphia can access the city within an hour due to the presence of the major Interstate 95, while the attractions of New York City are an hour and fifteen minutes’ drive in the opposite direction. Interstate 195 makes summer beach trips a breeze, as Shore towns such as Belmar are just a 40-minute drive away.
