Busy Hanover Township in Lehigh County offers convenience

Hanover Township in Lehigh County is perhaps best known as the home of the Lehigh Valley International Airport, which sits right in the middle of the township. Living in the flight path may take some adjusting, but residents benefit from proximity to shopping centers and the Lehigh Valley Thruway. While roads can get congested at rush hour, the activity is a testament to the area’s economic growth. “It’s a great place to live with great businesses and a ton of jobs,” says Tim Getz, a Realtor and Associate Broker at Re/Max Real Estate who specializes in the Lehigh Valley. The township has seen a surge in warehouse jobs, starting with the FedEx Ground hub, which employs hundreds. “Our area is such a hotbed for warehousing and jobs,” Getz says. “There are more and more people coming, and more jobs coming.”

Plenty of stores and restaurants at Airport Shopping Center

The township is home to Airport Shopping Center and Valley Plaza, which offer residents a variety of shopping and dining options. “You have the Target and other relatively cheap stores; it’s a popular destination for people in the general area,” Getz says. Shoppers can grab groceries from Sam’s Club, Target and Aldi, comb through secondhand clothes at Plato’s Closet and browse the racks of shoes at Famous Footwear and DSW. One of the many restaurants in the area is Copperhead Grille Allentown, a family-owned spot where locals can watch the game on the big screen over some wings and beer. “Copperhead Grille is very popular restaurant with terrific food and service—a great mom-and-pop. And there are chain restaurants up and down that area; it’s heavily traveled,” Getz says.

Cultural attractions in Bethlehem

More entertainment beyond Hanover Township lies about 6 miles away in Bethlehem, the second-largest city in the Lehigh Valley. Since 1984, the city has hosted a free summer music festival called Musikfest. Bethlehem also draws crowds during the holiday season to commemorate where the first documented Christmas tree in America was decorated in 1747. Downtown streets glow with festive lights in November and December. “Downtown Bethlehem—people come from all over the world to see it; it’s known as The Christmas City,” Getz says.
