Hansville is full of stunning views and ways to get outdoors

At the very northern end of Washington’s Kitsap Peninsula is Hansville, a quiet area with a small-town feel and stunning views. People find homes here for easy access to beaches, parks and outdoor recreation. Neighbors stay active with constant events at the Greater Hansville Community Center, and busy spots like Kingston and Poulsbo are a short drive from home. In Hansville, you get a place to live that feels tucked away with direct routes to more action across the peninsula.

Homes are surrounded by beauty

You’ll find chalet-style homes that sell in the mid-$200,000s to mid-$400,000s, while most New Traditional and ranch-style homes range from the lower $500,000s to upper $900,000s. “There tends to be more expensive houses,” says Laura Henry, a Realtor and co-founder of Master Management Real Estate, who has helped many clients find their homes in Hansville. “There are beautiful waterfront houses and docks. The price point is fairly high, but people who tend to move stay there for a while.” Waterfront homes are the most expensive, usually selling for $1 million to $2 million.

Hansville has two main subdivisions: Driftwood Keys and Shore Woods. “If you’re at Driftwood Keys, you overlook the Puget Sound and see the Olympic Mountains,” Henry says. “[It’s] also a community with a boat launch, marina, pool and epic sunsets.” Both charge monthly HOA fees to maintain amenities like clubhouses and pools. Outside of these areas, homes tend to be spread out from each other, and some even line the peninsula’s edge with full views of the Puget Sound. Properties have access to public water, but they run on septic tank systems.

All the places you can explore in Hansville

Anyone who likes to get outdoors will find something to do here. “Hansville has a really nice sandy beach,’ Henry says. “There [are] always people in waders fishing. There’s a lot of fishing, clamming and oyster fishing.” Some people prefer to stay on land, and there are plenty of spaces to explore. “There’s the Hansville Greenway trail. You can hike it back to this really nice place called Buck Lake. It’s just an awesome place, as far as, if you like water, it’s great.” You might visit: *Heronswood Garden to follow the walking paths

  • Norwegian Point County Park to access the shore
  • Buck Lake County Park to swim, fish or use the playground
  • Point No Point County Park to tour the historic Point No Point Lighthouse
The Greater Hansville Community Center, near Buck Lake, organizes events throughout the year. There’s an Easter egg hunt in April and the Hansville Car Show in July. The center has at least one event each month, creating a space for neighbors to stay connected.

Driving to catch the ferry or get groceries

Some residents are close enough to walk or bike to the shores, but most people drive to get around the area and across the peninsula. It’s easy to drive to Kingston or Poulsbo when you need groceries or to dine out. Depending on where people live, it takes under 20 minutes to reach Kingston and about 30 minutes to Poulsbo. Henry mentions she has had clients move to Hansville but keep their jobs in Edmonds or Seattle, both a little over an hour away, depending on traffic. Commuters heading across the sound drive to Kingston to catch the ferry. There’s the Edmonds-Kingston Ferry line and the Kingston-Seattle fast ferry line, and both offer vehicle spaces so riders can take their cars across.

Heading out of Hansville for more restaurant options

Henry highlights the Greenwoodes Farm Organic Bakery near Point No Point, which sells freshly baked goods, from breakfast sandwiches to fruit tarts. Hansgrill Hansville Grocery and Provisions Co. is part restaurant, part grocery store. Most people drive to Kingston for more options, like burgers at The Grub Hut or seafood at The Kingston Ale House. Hansville Road Northeast leads directly to the Safeway grocery store, which has a wider selection than Hansgrill.

Where kids are going for class

Hansville is a part of the highly rated North Kitsap School District. Residents in Hansville’s west are usually zoned for David Wolfle Elementary School, while those in the east go to Richard Gordon Elementary School. All students go to middle and high school in Kingston.
