Harmony Grove - a planned community for mountain views and stargazing

Situated among the towering mountains of San Diego, Harmony Grove is one of the oldest areas in the city, founded by spiritualist pioneers in the 1800s. Today, that spirit lives on with elaborate Halloween decorations, equestrian facilities and a dark nighttime sky policy to illuminate the stars. HOA amenities and surrounded by panoramic mountain views, this master-planned community offers family-sized homes close to shopping plazas and nature trails, just south of Escondido. "It has dense tract homes, sidewalks and horse trails," says Karen Tackett, a San Diego local and real estate agent at Homesmart Realty West. "It's more upscale and urban than the surrounding areas. It's a neighborhood with a very involved HOA."

Spanish Revivals with gardens and backyard pools

Palm trees and mountain views surround the neatly planned development of Harmony Grove Village. Its stucco houses feature tile roofs and flower gardens, set along well-connected sidewalks with gradual terrain changes. Many listings boast panoramic views and back patios with swimming pools. The area's architectural styles include New Traditional homes and Spanish Revivals, with prices ranging from $710,000 to $2.3 million. Most properties have HOA fees, and prices can increase depending on size, as some houses reach up to 4,400 square feet. Manufactured homes cost between $470,000 and $830,000. "Living anywhere in San Diego is cool because you can get to snow, mountains, desert and the beach all in one day if you want. I've done it. It is just a really nice location," Tackett says.

Fault line events and dry conditions

San Diego County is home to multiple fault lines that cause tectonic plate movement, including the Rose Canyon and San Andreas Faults. As a result, the city can experience earthquakes and landslide events. Wildfires are also common due to dry conditions, wind and flammable vegetation. Summer temperatures can reach 100°F, although the coastal breeze gives the region a reputation for pleasant weather.
