Enhaut
Suburban Neighborhood in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Dauphin County 17113
Modest brick homes steeped in historic charm
Outlined by a dense tree line, Enhaut’s orderly, gridded streets are lined with an amalgam of small yet charming homes. Few markers or signs recognize the community’s historical character, but the homes are a testament to early suburban town development from the late 1800s and early 1900s. As new residents move in, they are renovating their properties, says Realtor Christen Tribbitt of Keller Williams Elite. “Existing properties are receiving some pampering,” she says. “Folks are breathing new life into them.” Prices range between townhouses starting at $70,000 and newly renovated Cape Cods for $235,000.Pocket neighborhood parks and recreation by the Susquehanna
“There are a couple of parks in the area that kids can walk to and play basketball,” Garcia says, adding that playgrounds, picnic areas and sporting courts are all close by. Contributing to the small neighborhood feel, Enhaut Park welcomes dog walkers, ball players and children to its playgrounds, hard surface courts and sizable baseball field. Emerald fairways along the rolling hills of Dauphin Highlands Golf Course just east of the neighborhood beckons golfers to practice their swing and hone their skills. Residents also take advantage of their proximity to the Susquehanna River. Only 15 minutes west, City Island is a destination for recreation, and locals seek out a spot on the island’s beach in the summer to swim and sunbathe. The island is also home to the Skyline Sports Complex and FNB Field, where the Harrisburg Senators baseball team plays regular games. On Independence Day, City Island swarms with locals for the July 4th Food Truck Festival, an annual celebration featuring over 45 food trucks and an impressive fireworks display.Dauphin County academics close to home
Enhaut shares the aptly named Tri-Community Elementary School with neighboring Oberlin and Bressler. Kids advance to Swatara Middle School in Oberlin. Both the elementary and middle school earn C-plus grades on Niche. Central Dauphin East High School is the sixth-best public high school in the county, with a B-plus grade. Out of more than 700 public high schools in the state, the school is also rated as the most diverse.Easy access to Interstate 283 and Harrisburg International Airport
Though the enclave is tucked away from the city, Enhaut still boasts easy access to major thoroughfares like Interstate 283 and the Capital Beltway, connecting residents to Downtown Harrisburg within 15 minutes. The neighborhood is also minutes away from the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and the Harrisburg International Airport is in neighboring Highspire, only 6 miles west.Convenient shopping and grocery options, plus local diners
A slew of convenient shopping and dining options are located within a few minutes off of Interstate 283. At High Pointe Commons, locals can shop at Target and JCPenney or pick up fast-casual eats at Chili’s or Subway. American favorites are served alongside an extensive list of draft beers in an easygoing tavern atmosphere at Gilligan’s Bar and Grill. Down the street, neon-drenched Capitol Diner offers a vast menu of classic comfort diner staples, like waffles and stacked burgers. Closer to home, locals can stop into family-owned Herby’s El Mexicano Restaurant for authentic Mexican flavors and a full bar.
