A tale of two counties
The city of Hartford is located in two Wisconsin counties: Washington and Dodge. The population is roughly 15,800 people. Hartford is named after Hartford, Connecticut.

A growing selection of houses
Being roughly 40 miles from Milwaukee, Hartford residents can enjoy suburban amenities like having privacy from neighbors and having homes on large lots. Homes were built all throughout the mid to late 19th century, with new construction still coming on line today. Lots are also available for purchase. Most of Hartford's older homes are ranch-styles from the 1950s that cost around $200,000. Other neighborhood housing styles run the gamut, like a three-bedroom Colonial with stone facades and an in-ground pool for $500,000; and various estate properties with between three and four bedrooms, some on nearly 100 acres of property, for anywhere between $1.2 million to $4 million.

What's down Main Street
There are several restaurants and bars clustered together in the city's downtown. There's Main Street Cafe, which residents describe as a hometown diner. Scoop Deville Ice Cream Shop is an old-fashioned ice cream parlor that serves homemade ice cream, classic candies and malts. Residents can grab cocktails and local beers with their neighbors at the Brewed Omen. For groceries, Hartford residents can shop at the family-owned Festival Foods supermarket. A local chain, with a location in the city, Festival Food offers a wide range of produce, organic foods, seafood, meats and more.

Indoor and outdoor amenities
There are ample outdoor recreational opportunities in the city of Hartford. Woodlawn Union Park is a large green space with sidewalks and disc golf. At West Side Park, little leaguers can live out their baseball dreams on the diamond while other kids play together on the playground. Locals can let their four-legged pals run free at the dog park within Independence Park. Residents also meet at Independence Park to play soccer. Nearby is the Washington County Golf Course, which is ranked as the No. 1 municipal course in Wisconsin. There are several leagues for golf enthusiasts to enjoy. For indoor fun, residents can find plenty to do at the Jack Russell Memorial Library. There are book clubs and movie nights for adults and for kids, there's LEGO club, toddler time, parachute play and teen book club. The Wisconsin Automotive Museum, showcasing transportation history, is located in the heart of Hartford.

Students from all over come together at Hartford High
The School District of Hartford serves the community. Lincoln and Rossman Elementary Schools each educate about half of the city's kindergarten through fifth graders. Both schools have an overall B-minus rating from Niche. Both elementary schools feed into Central Middle School, which has an overall B-minus ranking from Niche. Local high schoolers can attend Hartford Union High School, which serves the city of Hartford, the Town of Hartford and most of the surrounding communities like Erin, Friess Lake, Richfield and Neosho. Hartford Union High School offers over 30 activities and clubs like an annual musical and yearbook club. Hartford Union High School has an overall B rating from Niche.

City connections
Highway 60 cuts through Hartford, connecting locals to Lake Michigan and Madison, Wisconsin. Milwaukee is roughly 40 miles away. Locals can hop on Interstate 41 and be downtown within an hour.
