When locals want to branch out, the larger cities of Huntsville and Birmingham are close at hand, with Highway 53 cutting through the neighborhood. This neighborhood’s main appeal is country living amid gorgeous natural surroundings.

The neighborhood is developing scenic walking trails for residents as well. Kendall Farms, an “agrihood,” is coming to Toney soon. An agrihood is essentially a neighborhood incorporating farmland into its planning so residents can enjoy a sustainable farm-to-table lifestyle. Residents will be able to get their hands dirty and grow their own produce in the communal gardens while reducing waste by composting. Just north of Toney is Red Coach Resort, an RV campsite with trails, koi ponds, creeks, tubing and swimming holes. You don’t need to camp there to use the facilities—many locals opt to get a $5 day pass to enjoy the looping one-and-a-half-mile trail or to float in the creek. Toney is also an oasis for horse girls and horse boys alike, with equestrian centers nearby. Oak Meadows Stables offers horsemanship lessons, including routine care, grooming handling, and riding. Local athletes flock to Madison Crossroads Community Center, not far from the high school. The community center has gathering spaces, an indoor basketball court and other sporting facilities. Youth leagues practice home runs at Blue Water Springs Park, which features baseball and softball fields. South of Toney is Harvest Square Nature Preserve, which offers over two miles of beautiful trails, ponds, fishing piers and plenty of chances to spot native wildlife. Thirty-three of the preserve’s acres are used for farming, while the remaining 36 acres are home to deer, turkey, raccoons, foxes, beavers and various amphibians.
Authentic Mexican dishes at neighborhood staple El Paso
The Gonzalez family has been serving authentic Mexican cuisine to the community for over two decades at their restaurant El Paso. The neighborhood gem is sure to satisfy any cravings for burritos, fajitas and other Mexican fare. Nearby is Marissa’s Grille, where wings, burgers and crinkle-cut fries are on the menu.
