Grace Avenue-Northhills Drive

Houses from the 20th century and multifamily units
The neighborhood features brick ranch-style houses with paved walkways extending through the front yards—most dating from the 1960s to the 1980s. There are also duplexes and quadplexes; many are purchased by investors looking to rent a unit to college students and young professionals. The area contains several multifamily units, such as Mark 1 Apartments and North Hill Place Apartments. Houses don't come on the market often, but the most recent home was priced at around $125,000. Buyers can expect to pay between $175,000 and $225,000 for a multi-unit property. Hattiesburg and the surrounding region are prone to severe weather, including tornadoes and flooding, which may affect insurance premiums.
Grace Christian Elementary is a part of the community
Students can attend Grace Christian Elementary, which sits inside the neighborhood, and move on to N.R. Burger Middle. The middle school's campus contains a community clinic managed by the Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative Inc. Hattiesburg High provides CTE courses and a middle college program. Each school has a C-plus grade on Niche. Many high school seniors stay in the city to attend USM and receive Freshman Scholarships as incoming students.Getting to local churches, USM and downtown
Surrounding the area are several houses of worship, including the New Seasons Family Worship Center. The Hub City Transit offers bus stops along the neighborhood outskirts, on Highway 42 and 7th Avenue. The brown route leads to downtown Hattiesburg, about 3 miles east, while the gold route takes riders to the university. The neighborhood has U.S. 49 to the west, leading to USM and Hardy Street. Forrest General Hospital is about 3 miles south, and Merit Health Wesley is 5 miles west.
The 44-mile Longleaf Trace
The Rails-To-Trails path, Longleaf Trace, is a linear park for pedestrians and bicyclists. The 44-mile trail crosses several cities, bringing residents through Mississippi's Pine Belt. Kamper Park, about 2 miles south, is considered a premier destination for locals and tourists. The park is home to the Hattiesburg Zoo, with over 100 species of animals. The grounds also contain the Serengeti Springs water park, which opened in 2024.
Shopping along U.S. 49 and Highway 42
Highway 42 runs along the northern edge, leading to a Dollar General near the fire station and service providers. U.S. 49 stretches past the neighborhood, bringing patrons to Don Chuy's Mexican Grill and the popular Glory Bound Gyro, a mile away. Further south are CVS Pharmacy and Walgreens. The route intersects with Hardy Street in the heart of Midtown, which has a Corner Market grocery store, national and local restaurants, as well as storefronts. Hartfield says that she visits the city center often. "For lunch, downtown Front Street has Hattiesburger and Blues, the best burgers ever! The city also has a lot of Mexican places," Hartfield says.
A few miles from M.M. Roberts Stadium
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles play football at M.M. Roberts Stadium. The season's first football game and homecoming draw large crowds to the campus.
