The District at Midtown is a mixed-use development that includes residential housing and retail spaces. Since 2018, it has been experiencing growth, especially after the addition of restaurants and businesses to the area. Today, the Midtown area attracts college students and locals visiting storefronts and eateries. The Midtown Market shopping center has a Corner Market grocery store and Freedom Pharmacy. "We have direct access to the Midtown area, which is full of restaurants, especially the Robert St. John restaurants," Andrews says. Robert St. John, a local restauranteur, has a collection of establishments along the business route. These include popular spots like Tabella Italian Restaurant and Ed's Burger Joint. Mahogany Bar, inside Crescent City Grill, is a well-visited college student hangout with patio seating and happy hour selections. Traveling less than 5 miles down Hardy Street leads to Turtle Creek Mall and more shopping in West Hattiesburg.Fun at Kamper Park
Kamper Park, located about 2 miles east, is an entertainment destination in the city. It is home to the Hattiesburg Zoo, which houses over 100 species of animals. Additionally, the zoo features the Serengeti Springs waterpark, which opened in 2024.
