Florida's Friendliest Small Town

A charming, historic haven, Havana is one of Florida’s most unique suburbs. Referred to as “Florida’s Friendliest Small Town,” this community treats residents to a quaint downtown district, a unique, preserved heritage and a burgeoning art scene wrapped up in a large slice of southern hospitality. Now known for its cafes, specialty shops, antique stores and art galleries, Havana’s history is steeped in Cuban shade tobacco, made for hand-wrapped cigars. Once known as the “Shade Tobacco Capital of the World,” instead of being known for sugar sand beaches, the town’s rich, rolling hills were covered with textured tobacco from the mid-1800s to the late 1970s. Today, old tobacco barns and warehouses are filled with antiques, art and eclectic locally made items. Its deep roots still shine through courtesy of the town’s iconic landmarks and diverse murals splashed across buildings and stores, like the Old Spanish Trail piece downtown.

Historic and modern homes with southern charm

Havana boasts a charming blend of historic and modern homes, with many historic properties influenced by Greek, Neoclassical and antebellum architectural styles. The neighborhood offers single-family farmhouses, cozy, Florida-style bungalows, ranch-style houses and contemporary homes. Most homes were built in the 1960s, ranging from $160,000 to $685,000. A historical marker sits in front of the Dr. Malcolm Nicholson Plantation home, paying homage to the prominent physician and planter. The Gulf Coast-style cottage, built in the 1820s, is one of the oldest remaining structures in Gadsden County. Other historic homes in the community have unique characteristics, like detached carriage houses, stately white columns, pole barns and small paddocks. Newly constructed homes are predominantly in the Twin Ponds subdivision, which offers more modern designs. Most homes boast wrap-around porches and beautifully landscaped spacious lawns filled with pecan and orange trees and hydrangea bushes. Magnolia and oak trees line the streets, matching the charm and breezy vibe of this Sunshine State community.
