Piedmont South offers exactly the calm and orderly environment that many homebuyers look for in a suburb. The quiet Haymarket neighborhood features a pleasant combination of convenient location, pleasant surroundings, nearby amenities and highly-rated public schools. “It’s an attractive, secluded neighborhood,” says local Realtor Mary Beth Eisenhard of the Eisenhard Group. “But it’s still close to shopping and dining. It’s a fundamentally comfortable place to live.”
Homes in Piedmont South showcase a range of architectural styles, from traditional colonials to more modern designs. Most homes in the area were built in the last 30 years, and tend to have large layouts, accommodating families of different sizes. Condos in the neighborhood typically sell for between $350,000 and $450,000 while offering 1,500 to 2,000 square feet, while the neighborhood’s spacious single-family homes can go for anywhere from $600,000 to a little under $1 million and typically feature between 2,500 and 5,000 square feet. The neighborhood’s wide, modern streets are lined with shade trees and carefully maintained lawns, with many houses backing into small wooded areas.
Piedmont South’s residents enjoy easy access to a number of pleasant spaces, where leisure and recreational activities like walking, jogging, and casual sports games are common. A number of gated communities in the area, like Parks of Piedmont, maintain their own private parks, pools and recreational facilities.
The area’s shopping is concentrated in central Haymarket, less than half a mile from Piedmont South. There, on either side of Washington Street, you’ll find a variety of retailers, from big box stores like Walmart and Kohl’s to local shops like Saddlery Liquidators. The area is also home to the neighborhood’s supermarkets, Aldi and Wegman’s.
In terms of dining, Piedmont South offers a range of options. As with retailers, the area’s restaurants are concentrated in central Haymarket. Washington Street has everything from fast food and chain restaurants to international eateries serving Japanese, Italian and Mexican cuisig8pyne. Zandra’s Taqueria is known for its combination of modern and traditional taco offerings, along with its generous margaritas. When locals are in the mood for a night out, they have a number of bars and breweries to choose from. Highly rated Trouvaille Brewing Company features an ever-evolving selection of classic pilsners, modern fruited sours and hazy IPAs, all brewed in-house.
Schools around Piedmont South fall under the jurisdiction of Prince William County Public Schools, a district that has been recognized for its consistent efforts toward delivering quality education. Haymarket Elementary is rated seven out of ten on GreatSchools, and Bull Run Middle School has an A- overall grade on Niche. Battlefield High School also has a seven out of ten rating on GreatSchools: it has been recognized as a “School of Excellence” by the county four times and is regularly ranked among the top 25 high schools in Virginia by U.S. News. Battlefield is known for its strong computer science curriculum, which can be seen in its award-winning Robotics team.
While Haymarket is often considered part of the D.C. suburbs, it's not the quickest commute if you’re looking to get to the Capitol — Piedmont South is close to where the houses stop and the farmland starts. Downtown DC and central suburbs like Arlington and Alexandria are all around 45 minutes away by car, however, it’s an easier commute to the western suburbs: Centreville and Manassas are just a 15 minute drive. The neighborhood’s out-of-the-way location has its benefits, too. There are a number of excellent parks and preserves within a short drive, including the expansive and historic Manassas National Battlefield Park, and James Long Regional Park, which features miles of mixed-use trails.
Piedmont South offers an uncomplicated suburban living experience. It combines easy access to essential amenities with a peaceful environment, striking a balance that appeals to those looking to enjoy both suburban convenience and rural tranquility.
