Homes dotting the Hayward hillsides
Mission-Garin is an East Hayward neighborhood where the city’s residential streets extend into the meadowy slopes of the East Bay countryside. “It’s at the foot of the hills, so you’ll have some views. And you’re close to a lot of hiking, trails and regional parks. It’s a little further away from the busyness of central Hayward,” says Realtor Jeff Fajardo of Fohl Realty, who specializes in this part of the East Bay. Located about 3 miles south of the city’s downtown district, residents are as close to breweries and restaurants as they are to bucolic Bay Area scenery.

Garin Regional Park
With its place against the mountains, Mission-Garin puts some of the region’s most majestic surroundings right in residents’ backyard. Garin Regional Park overlooks Hayward and encompasses nearly 6,000 acres of open space. It has more than 35 miles of trails where locals and visitors enjoy breathtaking views of brilliant emerald-green hills in the springtime. “A lot of people are taking advantage of the trails. There’s a lot of hiking around here,” says Realtor Kerissa Calvo of Fohl Realty. The park also hosts the annual Garin Apple Festival, which celebrates the area’s history of apple-growing with food, drinks, games and live music. Families and kids also enjoy easy access to Fairway Greens Park, a neighborhood park with a playground, tree-lined pathways and open fields for playing and picnicking. Avid golfers can reserve a tee time at the Mission Hills of Hayward Golf Course, a public, 9-hole course with a driving range.
