Santa Clara
Bungalows and ranch homes in the heart of the city
This slice of Hayward features rows of bungalows and ranch homes on a traditional street grid. Split-level builds and Mediterranean-style detailing add variety along the cul-de-sacs and cutouts. Lots sizes are typically on the smaller side, typically around 5,000 square feet, but there’s still plenty of room for landscaping and gardening. While it's primarily made up of single-family homes, there are some recent developments of town homes and apartments near the area’s busy thoroughfares. Town houses range in price from $750,000 to $900,000, while single-family homes typically range from $700,000 to $1.1 million.Convenience is king in Santa Clara
Gateway Plaza and Jackson Square feature several options for groceries and everyday essentials, including Safeway, Walgreens and Lucky. At the opposite end of the neighborhood, there’s a Costco for wholesale shopping. Southland Mall is just west of Santa Clara; this extensive shopping center houses an array of boutique apparel shops, department stores, casual dining and the Cinemark Century Movie Theater. Several local restaurants also call Santa Clara home: Naked Fish offers Japanese classics, while El Taquito #2 brings the home-cooked flavors of Mexico to the neighborhood.Community parks are a draw for new residents
Local parks and schools are a big perk for residents, says Realtor Kerissa Calvo of Fohl Realty. “It’s very family-oriented — you’ll see kids and families walking around the neighborhood and going to parks,” she says. The community gathers at Centennial Park, which has flat trails, various athletic courts and picnic areas perfect for hosting a family reunion or birthday party. Birchfield Park runs alongside Santa Clara Street for a full city block and provides shady trees, playgrounds and dog-friendly fields. Cannery Park is also nearby, where families bring their kids to play on climbing structures and splash pads. Frequent gym users have multiple options for indoor exercise at 24 Hour Fitness and City Sports Club.Public schools close to home
