A diverse community and central transportation hub within Hayward
Tennyson-Alquire is one of Hayward’s most diverse neighborhoods, showcasing a contrasting collection of communities with varied housing options and convenient connections. Centrally located in Hayward, Tennyson-Alquire attracts a wide range of new and longtime homeowners. “The area has a mix of residents, but I think it’s a good community for first-time homebuyers,” says Maggie Ng, a local realtor of 13 years at Legacy Real Estate. “It doesn’t have the most top-rated school district, so it also works for young couples that want to live in an area that’s convenient and who don’t necessarily need to look into schools just yet.” With its location next to an abundance of community parks, authentic multicultural dining and outdoor recreation, the growing Tennyson-Alquire neighborhood still remains an attractive East Bay spot with much to offer.

Classic Hayward housing landscape
The neighborhood streetscapes feature straightaways and cul-de-sacs lined with paved sidewalks and towering palm trees that help shade the residential properties. Like other Hayward neighborhood districts, the most common housing styles are longstanding Craftsman bungalows and mid-century modern ranchers mixed in with clusters of newer Mediterranean designs, often featuring stucco roofs. Most housing includes single-family homes and townhouses, although the neighborhood has a few sections of mobile home communities that offer lower housing prices, ranging from $250,000 to $350,000. Area townhouses start from $600,000 and go up to $900,000, while single-family homes range from $650,000 to $1.3 million for larger, renovated properties with modern interior upgrades.
