Henry Fork offers a quiet community with smaller homes that sell for a comparatively lower price. Part of Franklin County, the area known as the “moonshine capital of the world” thanks to national attention it received from a federal trial held in 1935 during America’s Prohibition. The county still embraces and celebrates its moonshining history with events like the annual Moonshine Express and Moonshine Heritage Month in April.

Houses that don’t sit along Henry Fork’s main roads sit on dead end streets that weave through the area’s forest. Commuters can take U.S. Route 220 north 25 miles to get to Roanoke. Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital is 3 miles north. The closest airport, Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional, is 32 miles away.

Just south on Route 220, Willow Creek Country Club has a 9-hole golf course. There’s tennis courts and fishing access for Woody Lake 3 miles south. Waid Recreation Park is also 12 miles away with sports facilities and 15 miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails.
Shopping and dining in Rocky Mount
Locals can head 4 miles north to Rocky Mount for stores like Walmart, Kroger and Lowe’s Home Improvement. The Rocky Mount Farmers’ Market is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays with fresh, local produce, plants and home goods. There are also fast-food chains and locally owned eateries like Hema's Italian Restaurant, which has been serving staples like stromboli and pizza since 1999.
Moonshine Express, music fest in Rocky Mount
Franklin County’s annual Moonshine Express festival is held toward the end of April at Franklin County High School. The event features local vendors, live music and carnival games. There’s also Rocky Mount Fest, a free music festival that takes place in September at Citizen Square.
