Hewlett Neck is a tiny waterfront village on Long Island’s South Shore with a peaceful, almost rural charm. Life in the village revolves around the water and its tight-knit community. “It’s not an area that’s just so big that you don’t know your neighbors,” says Sara Abikzer, a licensed real estate salesperson at Signature Premier Properties. “Everyone here gets to know each other and helps support each other.”

The approximately 160 homes lining Hewlett Neck’s tree-lined streets are often large and set back on an acre or more of land, contributing to its more rural feel. In such a small village, no one is ever far from the water, and there are many waterfront homes to choose from. According to Abikzer, the homes are a mixture of grand new constructions and older colonial-style homes that have been lovingly restored and maintained. Even in such a small village, this variety of factors causes a wide range in price, with home prices typically starting as low as $1.7 million and climbing as high as $6 million. Despite the higher price tag on homes, low inventory and high demand for houses in the village have worked together to create a lot of competition in the market. “It’s very hard to keep a house on the market without it selling in minutes, like, literally,” Abikzer says. “If it’s priced to sell, it’s going to sell.” As a result, Abikzer says that potential homebuyers should come into their search for a home prepared to make a move the instant they find a house they love. “It’s really important to be prepared as a buyer, which means to be either pre-approved, have proof of funds, have a great realtor that you’re working with that can help you through the process to get the job done seamlessly,” Abikzer says.

Hewlett Neck’s award-winning school district, the Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District, is another major draw to the village. Niche lists this district among the top ten districts in the state and gives every school in it an A-plus rating. Children begin their education at Franklin Early Childhood Center before moving to an elementary school like Hewlett Elementary School for second through fifth grades. Students then move on to Woodmere Middle School and George W. Hewlett High School. The high school’s academic and athletic programs are both award-winning, with students recently placing in the New York State Track & Field Championships.

With water on two sides of the little village, residents spend much of their free time boating, kayaking, fishing and more. They can choose to join the Keystone Yacht Club, which was established in 1888 and provides even more opportunities to socialize and build relationships within the community. Hewlett Neck is also just minutes from major beaches. “It’s a unique location because we are literally minutes away from the nicest beaches,” Abikzer says. “You could bike, you could walk, you could drive to any of these beaches.” Even Atlantic Beach is only a 5-mile drive away, and Hewlett’s abundance of shopping and dining options are just over a mile away. Once there, residents can grab groceries at Trader Joe’s or enjoy sushi at Xaga Sushi & Asian Fusion. Nearby, trains from Hewlett Station takes commuters to New York City in about 45 minutes. Hewlett Neck’s tight-knit community and water-centric lifestyle give it a unique, peaceful atmosphere, while its location ensures that there’s plenty of nearby excitement to be found when residents want it. For many, this combination makes Hewlett Neck a truly special place to live.
