Residents of Highland Charter Township are surrounded by opportunities for outdoor exploration. “There’s lots of recreational activities and lot of state parks,” says Trevor Brooks, director of KW Commercial. “It’s definitely a relaxed atmosphere that’s very community minded.” The Highland State Recreation Area offers 5,900 acres of lake lands for locals to hike and swim in. Duck Lake Pines Park is another popular spot for its playgrounds, sports fields and scenic views of Duck Lake. Horse riding is also immensely popular in Highland Charter Township, Michigan’s first designated “equestrian community.” Venues like Karner Blue Stables allow riders to train and care for their horses so that they can freely explore the nearby riding fields atop their equine companion.
