Small town charm

With its charming Main Street and quintessential village gazebo, Hilton feels more like small town America than a suburb of busy Rochester. Not too long ago, much of Hilton was once farmland and even today, it’s not unusual for residents to wake up and find deer grazing in the backyard. “A housing buildup is coming but a sense of community and a downhome atmosphere still remain,” says lifelong resident of the Rochester area, Sharon Quataert of Sharon Quataert Realty.

Hilton's many home styles

"A big draw to the area," notes Realtor Quataert, "is Hilton's affordable housing. Home buyers can get real value for their money here." Big homes with off-street parking, wide sidewalks and mature shade trees are found throughout the area. It is an easy walk to the retail district from almost anywhere in the neighborhood. Housing prices start at $199,000 for a ranch-style home on a half-acre lot to $450,000 for a large chalet-style home on two acres. Several different architectural styles are found in Hilton including ranches, colonials, farmhouses and Victorian.

Hilton's school stand out

Hilton’s schools are top notch. “One of the best highlights of living in Hilton is its thriving school district,” notes Quataert. When the weather is good, children can walk to the schools from most parts of the neighborhood. Quest Elementary School has a student body of 444 and a teacher-student ration of 11 to one. Niche rates Quest as B-plus. Merton Williams Middle School serves grades seven through eight and has a student-to-teacher ratio of 11 to one. It also has B-plus rating. Hilton High School boasts an A-minus rating. The school band participates in many hometown events. Its well-regarded drumline has won 15 state championships.

Parks and playgrounds in Hilton

Outdoor and recreation enthusiasts will find much to do in Hilton. The 973-acre Northampton Park is open all year. In addition to playgrounds, soccer fields and a model airplane field, the park has seven miles of hiking and horseback riding trails. It boasts a ski lodge, skiing and snowboarding hills. The nearby Salmon Creek Nature Preserve abuts the Braddock Bay Wildlife area and provides visitors with fishing, birding and hiking opportunities. Hilton Village Park features playgrounds, picnic spots, tennis and basketball courts, as well as hiking and fishing. The park has a restored 1928 carousel that is open for rides in the summer. Pleasure Lanes Bowling facility offers good fun and warm food. Hilton’s Fitness Warehouse provides physical fitness programs, routines and exercise equipment for the entire family. The YMCA of Greater Rochester offers indoor basketball, swimming and other activities.

Hilton's many shops and stops

When it comes to shopping, Hilton is home to several local vendors and mom-and-pop stores. The Heart of Hilton is an all-handcrafted home décor and gift shop featuring works by more than 50 local artisans. The Redneck Siren sells artistic furniture and one-of-a-kind decorator pieces sure to make your home a standout. Kelly’s Farm Market sells homemade donuts and fresh apple cider. Fall visits to the apple farm have been a tradition for Hilton families for generations. For pharmaceuticals and groceries, there is a CVS Pharmacy and a Tops Friendly Market. Big box stores such as Wegmans and Walmart are less than 10 miles away. Hilton has plenty of dining options. The cozy atmosphere of Foster’s Restaurant welcomes visitors. The Arlington Gastropub, a local favorite, has been serving home cooking since 1897.
