Maple Valley neighborhood with forests and farms

Acres of farmland and forestry create a unique landscape in Hobart, a rural neighborhood in King County. Roughly 28 miles southeast of Seattle, Hobart was originally settled by loggers in the 1870s and has since found a niche in agriculture and livestock. “Hobart is a pocket community within Maple Valley. It provides a nice outdoor life and it’s probably one of the last areas in Maple Valley with acreage, so you get the best of a rural community where people can have their animals,” says Real Estate Agent Tammie Mabry with eXp Realty, who has almost 10 years of experience and specializes in King County.

Farmhouses with a lot of land

Most homes in Hobart sit on large lots of farmland with fences and ample space between neighbors. In some areas, forests of mature trees separate properties. Dirt or gravel driveways veer off the paved main roads, leading to houses. Ranch-style homes built between the 1960s and 1980s are common, with most sharing a New Traditional exterior design. Prices range from $750,000 to $1.1 million for homes that span 1,500 to 2,000 square feet. Multi-level, traditional farmhouses with front porches are also found throughout the neighborhood. These properties are larger, spanning 2,200 to 2,600 square feet and costing $900,000 to $1 million. “The homes are not cookie-cutter; there’s a bit of a variety,” Mabry says. “For the most part, properties are one to five acres, which is great for people who want space.” The CAP Index Crime Score in Hobart is a 1 out of 10, which is lower compared to the national average of 4.

Nature trails and ballfields in Hobart

Hobart’s natural landscape lends to plenty of outdoor recreation. “There are a lot of hiking and horseback riding trails nearby,” Mabry says. “There’s also a lake with kayaking and all kinds of fun stuff.” The Taylor Mountain Forest Trailhead starts in the east of Hobart and travels along both the Holder and Carey creeks through a forest of red alder trees. Wildlife can be seen along the trail, including the occasional black bear. Other paths in the area include the Carey Creek Trail and the Tiger Mountain Trail. Roughly 3 miles south of Hobart is the Big Bend Natural Area Park. The 96-acre open space sits along the Cedar River and is a mix of wetlands, bluffs and forests. Levdansky Park on Issaquah-Ravensdale Road is a recreational green space with a baseball field where local Little League and school teams play.
