Mount Olympus
Suburban Neighborhood in Holladay, Utah
Salt Lake County 84109, 84124
1950s ramblers and 2000s contemporary homes
Homebuyers can choose between midcentury homes like ramblers priced between $800,000 and $1.5 million and 1990s and 2000s contemporary builds ranging from $2 million to $6.5 million. More expensive homes tend to be situated in the foothills, spanning up to 8,000 square feet, with contemporary features like floor-to-ceiling windows. Neighbors can park their cars in driveways or one-car garages, and modern contemporary homes are either hidden by trees and foliage or situated at the end of driveways so long and hilly that homes are hidden from the street. Some porches have stone detailing and thin trees with wire cages that keep wildlife away.Olympus Hills Park, Old Mill Golf Course
Popular nearby hiking, skiing and mountain biking trails include the Mount Olympus Trailhead, Millcreek Canyon, Neffs Canyon and Grandeur Peak Trailhead. The Bonneville Shoreline Trail “Z” Connector is a 4-mile path in the neighborhood where people can hike or bike, with or without their leashed dogs. People visit Olympus Hills Park, located right outside the neighborhood, for its pavilions, playground and tennis courts. Nearby, Fortuna Park is a pocket park with a small playground and a basketball court with one hoop. The Old Mill Golf Course is 3 miles south and has a hilly public course with two 9-hole layouts, while the Country Club has a private 18-hole course 4 miles north. The University of Utah’s golf team competes at the club.A highly-rated school district
Granite School District serves kids and receives a B from Niche. Children can attend Eastwood School, which earns an A-minus, before moving on to Churchill Junior High School, which receives a B-plus and has many athletic programs, including a ski team. Teens may attend Skyline High, which ranks No.7 among Utah’s best public high schools and earns an A from Niche. “The high school is a big draw for people,” Griese says. For a private school option, there’s Intermountain Christian School, 4 miles south. The public University of Utah is 6 miles north, while Westminster University is a private college 6 miles west. Nearby places of worship include the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Risen Life Church and the Holladay United Church of Christ.Ski resorts and the annual Sundance Festival
Griese says one of Mount Olympus' draws is its proximity to Park City and its world-renowned ski resorts, just 25 miles away. “There’s a lot of skiing, mountain biking and hiking destinations. People get access to stuff there without having to pay the high living prices,” she says. People can visit attractions like Deer Valley Resort and Park City Alpine Slide, and Park City also hosts the annual Sundance Film Festival each January, bringing in big names like Will Ferrell and Glen Powell.Daily drives on Interstate 215
Most commuters start their mornings on Interstate 215, called the Belt Route. The main road leads to downtown Salt Lake and the South Salt Lake area. “The area is close to the highway,” says Joel Carson, a Realtor with Utah Real Estate PC and Salt Lake City native. “It’s not super walkable, but there are restaurants and grocery stores accessible pretty much anywhere nearby.” The Utah Transit Authority has a park-and-ride commuter lot near the Olympus Hills Shopping Center in the neighborhood’s northwest corner. People take the public bus to their desired location. The Salt Lake City International Airport is 17 miles north. St. Mark's Hospital is the closest medical center, 4 miles away.Running errands at Olympus Hills Shopping Center
Olympus Hills Shopping Center houses Macey’s, the local grocer, banks, a furniture store and the neighborhood bowling alley, Olympus Hills Bowling Lanes. Local eateries in the center include Wasatch Wing Coop, a quick, to-go chicken spot and Gary’s Asian Bistro, a Chinese sit-down restaurant with classic dishes like General Tso’s chicken and lo mein. Kobe Japanese Restaurant also sits in the center, serving sushi and edamame.Salt Lake Valley’s climate concerns
Because of the area’s arid climate and topography, it experiences environmental issues like pollution, which is constantly monitored by the Utah Department of Air Quality. Wildfire season occurs every year from July to October.
