Discovering slow-paced rural living in Holland
Residents of Holland can often see firepit smoke rising from nearby campgrounds and trucks rumbling down secluded gravel backroads, crickets and birds making an almost white noise. This is undoubtedly a rural town, mainly known for its large farming plots and slow-paced residential living. Established in 1818, Holland is found only 30 miles southeast of downtown Buffalo, farther inland to where valleys and the crests of hilltops have been the subject of local artists for years. Never far from a local business or a friendly neighbor, residents enjoy acres of green space and a quiet atmosphere, while the outdoors offers plenty for recreation.
Residential privacy and maintaining historic homes
One of Holland’s biggest appeals is the amount of acreage and residential privacy available for those living there. Many residents have had family living in Holland for generations, and still, the town has made way for new construction and opportunity. Contemporary homes have entered the market in the last decade, and there’s an evident focus on maintaining and restoring existing properties, some dating back to the late 18th century. Common architectural styles include the classic ranch home and ever-stylish Colonial homes alongside stacked cottages. The median selling price for single-family homes is $275,000, and properties typically come with half to a full acre minimum. Three or four-bedroom properties that have been fully restored or kept in immaculate condition can often spike past $300,000.
Larger single family homes in Holland might include front porches and brick chimneys.

Tee time at Holland Hills and hiking through Beaver Meadow
Much of the green space has a purpose as farmland or is owned to be someone’s backyard, but Holland still ensures residents have a multi-use recreational area. Holland Veteran’s Memorial Town Center has a large playground for the kids, a football field and a baseball diamond, and the paved roads around the area provide quiet paths for walks and biking. Over at Holland Hills Country Club, locals play the challenging 18-hole golf course and attend annual tournaments. Just a few miles east, the Beaver Meadow Audubon Center operates a nature preserve of over 300 acres, welcoming visitors to the nature center to learn about the local flora and fauna. With a winding boardwalk through wetlands, eight miles of trails past meadows and glacial kettle ponds and designated birdwatching areas, there’s plenty to do.

To and from Buffalo on Route 16
The main thoroughfare of Route 16 serves as a major artery for the town, and residents take it to travel the 30 miles north to downtown Buffalo, around a 35-minute trip. As it’s a heavily rural area, the community is highly car-dependent.
