Locals will travel across Houma to enjoy a meal at The Shack, and residents of Elysian Park only need to cross the street. Big box stores like Walmart and Dollar Tree are also nearby. Houma events throughout the year

Mardi Gras celebrations in Houma include weeks of parades but only make up some of the city's events. One of the newest additions is the Weenie Spaghetti Festival, where chefs try to make the best spaghetti. While the first festival was held in 2024, the turnout was promising. “They ran out of everything – so many people came,” Guidry says. The Maw Maw Walker is another highlight of the year. Every October, attendees dress up as grandmas and grandpas, competing in a costume contest before doing a pub crawl through Downtown Houma.

Elysian Park residents rely on their cars to get around. Louisiana Highway 57 runs along the northern border of the neighborhood. The closest hospital is the Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center, about 1 mile away. While Houma-Terrebonne Airport is only about 4 miles away, it is a small airport that rarely offers commercial flights. Instead, people will drive about 45 miles to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. “The Houma airport is still a good bit from where Elysian is, so you’re not going to hear a whole lot,” Guidry says.
