Greenway-Upper Kirby
Shopping and more galore
This neighborhood includes part of what’s considered one of the most prominent commercial corridors in the area. Thoroughfares like Richmond Avenue and Kirby Drive here are jam-packed with shops, restaurants, fitness centers and more. One local resident characterized it as having every imaginable restaurant within a block. Among the area institutions is “The Original Carrabba’s” on Kirby Drive, which dates back to 1986. The chain is now owned by the company Bloomin' Brands, but the original family still owns the Kirby location and is popular in part for its chicken marsala and its crab cakes. Those looking for a more casual option can stop in at Trill Burgers on Richmond Avenue, co-owned by Houston rap legend Bun B, or grab that breakfast taco and coffee at Houston-area chain Slowpokes. Locals can knock out grocery shopping, meanwhile, at the expansive Greenway Commons shopping center, which features a Costco and a connected LA Fitness. Or they can do some retail therapy at the Highland Village shopping center, where there are myriad stores, ranging from Vineyard Vines to Crate & Barrel.Variety abounds in this area
