Centrally located between highways
The Northside-Northline neighborhood is shaped like a wedge, a shape created by its placement between Interstate 45 and the Hardy Toll Road on its sides and Interstate 610 at its southern border. The neighborhood’s proximity to those highways makes it relatively simple for residents to get virtually anywhere, whether it’s driving south on I-45 to downtown Houston, north on the Hardy Toll Road to George Bush Intercontinental Airport or east on I-610 to get to Interstate 10, all of those destinations are 15 minutes away or less by car from Northside-Northline. “For most people in the neighborhood, commute times aren’t too bad by Houston standards,” says Realtor and native Houstonian Oscar Casas, who has been selling homes in the area for almost two decades. “The neighborhood’s central location makes it pretty easy.” Multiple Houston METRO bus stops along both Bauman Road and Parker Road in the center of the neighborhood provide transportation for those without their own cars. The lack of sidewalks in the area means it’s not very walkable, and social gatherings among neighbors are rare. As Casas says, “It’s the kind of neighborhood where residents tend to stick to themselves.”
Lower prices than downtown Houston
The median home price in Northside-Northline is $252,000, and buyers should expect to pay around $185 per square foot. A cozy two-bedroom/one-bathroom ranch-style home can sell for $194,000, and a spacious four-bedroom/three-bathroom newly-constructed ranch-style home can list for up to $380,000. “Because you’re further out from downtown, the prices are lower than what you’ll find closer to downtown,” says Casas. “And the demographics of the neighborhood trend towards middle-income folks, and the typical family size, I would say, is typically four to six people.”
Northside High offers dual enrollment
Students in the neighborhood can attend Barrick Elementary, Burbank Middle and Northside High School. Barrick earns a C rating on Niche, Burbank earns a B-minus and Northside High earns a C. Students at Northside High School have the opportunity to participate in the school’s dual-enrollment program that allows them to earn college credit while still in high school, and they also have the opportunity to play any of over 20 varsity-level sports. Parents can also avail themselves of Houston-area private schools, including The Kinkaid School, rated the best private school in the state by Niche.
Northline Park has space for sports
For outdoor recreation, neighborhood residents tend to go to either Clark Park in the southern half of the neighborhood or Northline Park in the northern half. Clark Park features a playground, a baseball diamond and a paved trail perfect for walking or jogging. There are also benches for relaxing under the shade of pecan trees for resting tired legs. Northline Park also has a playground and walking trail, and adds basketball and tennis courts to the list of offerings. For an indoor workout, 10th Fitness in the center of the neighborhood offers one-on-one personal training, group classes and a full weight room for individual use.
Shop and dine along the highway
Residents of the neighborhood buy their groceries at Fiesta Mart and Walmart Super Center, both located near the neighborhood’s southeastern boundary along I-45. The Houston Farmer’s Market and Whole Foods Market are also both located nearby, less than a mile west on I-610. Northline Commons, situated next to I-45 at the East Crosstimbers exit, beckons to shoppers with retail establishments like Foot Locker, Champs Sports and Ashley Stewart. Neighborhood restaurants include Alamo Tamales, where diners can feast on breakfast tacos served on house-made flour tortillas, barbacoa, menudo and, of course, homemade tamales. China Star is also located in Northside-Northline, featuring a seafood-centric menu of authentic Chinese cuisine. Being so close to downtown, residents of Northside-Northline can also take advantage of Houston’s wide array of amenities, including cultural events, restaurants and shopping.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

Lived in this neighborhood for over 50+ years. It was a very family friendly place. But unfortunately the last 10 years the crime rate is high, flooding is the norm and City services are hard to come by. Utilities are unreliable. Copper wiring for phone service is stolen on regular basses. Electric service is on/off and it does not have to be a storm to loose power. The power company put in high metal poles about 5 years ago, It did not help.. Our service is not dependable. Taxes are high.
