Serene residential abodes
Surrounded on three sides by Lake Travis, Hudson Bend is undeniably beautiful. Even so, it’s not the type of place you move to when you want to be at the center of community activities. In fact, it’s just the opposite. “You have a lot of people here who want their privacy,” says Kelly Thate, a Realtor with Keller Williams-Austin Portf. “It’s more of a nonrestricted living community that’s very private.” The Hudson Bend area is growing in demand because of the luxurious privacy offered by massive accommodating estates built to take advantage of the surrounding aesthetics. “It’s super hilly and offers beautiful views,” says Thate. “There are several public boat ramps as well as boat rental and boat concierge.” The overall vibe is one of privacy and respectful solitude among picturesque settings, she says. Similarly, community events are rare, except for the annual regattas held by the nearby Austin Yacht Club. Those are the times that residents know and expect Lake Travis to overflow with boats and local restaurants and pubs to teem with well-wishers. That activity is acceptable for residents who typically live in single-family homes on large lots, a reasonable distance from their neighbors as well as shopping and entertainment amenities. “It’s a tradeoff,” Thate says. “They don’t mind a short drive to the grocery store or to work because they have the privacy that they’re looking for.”

Hudson Bend is a haven for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Among its many attractions, a collection of pristine parks offers a diverse range of activities, including ziplining. Mansfield Dam Park is a 1,200-acre popular destination for swimming, boating, fishing and picnicking. Its scenic trails offer stunning views of Lake Travis and the surrounding Texas Hill Country. Jessica Hollis Park is a tranquil oasis on the banks of the Colorado River that’s perfect for kayaking, canoeing and birdwatching.

Rustic retreats to modern masterpieces
From modest waterfront bungalows to sprawling lakefront estates, many homes offer stunning views of Lake Travis, while others sit cozy among the lush greenery of the Texas Hill Country. Whether seeking a rustic ranch retreat or a lakefront modern masterpiece, Hudson Bend offers houses that complement its country charm and allure. Single-family homes range in price from the mid-$200,000s to upwards of $2 million. Lower-priced homes are typically found in older neighborhoods, while newer developments often feature larger homes with lake views and luxurious amenities. Neighborhoods in Hudson Bend vary widely, each with its own distinct character. Gated communities like Lakewood offer upscale amenities, such as private parks, swimming pools and tennis courts, while older, more established neighborhoods exude a relaxed, small-town atmosphere. Regardless of the neighborhood, many homes feature oversized windows and expansive patios large enough to enjoy the outdoors.

Authentic dishes and small boutiques
For groceries, Hudson Bend residents head to nearby H-E-B and Walmart. H-E-B is a Texas-based grocery chain that is known for its fresh produce and wide selection of products. For clothing, residents often head to one of the many boutiques in the town, which retail everything from clothing and accessories to casual and formal attire. When it comes to dining, residents can often be found at Infamous Brewing Co., which serves up craft beers and pub food. The brewery has a relaxed atmosphere and is a great place to catch up with friends. Another popular option is Rosita's Kitchen, a family owned Mexican food truck serving authentic dishes. And for those looking for barbecue, Thate says Best Damn BBQ Joint is the place to go. This restaurant serves up slow-smoked brisket, ribs and sausage.
