Benson Park’s neighbor on Nashua's outskirts
With its New England-style houses and acres of rustic land, Hudson might seem like just another small New England town. However, this village on the outskirts of Nashua was once the home of the “strangest farm on earth,” Benson’s Wild Animal Farm, which is now Benson Park. “Weekends in Hudson buzz with activities, reflecting the community's dynamic spirit. Locals enjoy outdoor activities at Robinson Pond, Musquash Pond, Benson Park, and Whip-Poor-Will Golf Club,” says William Neault the General Manager of Suzie’s Diner. “From local churches and schools to baseball and softball events, community engagement is a cornerstone of life here.”
Homes across the Merrimack River
A diverse collection of housing styles and build years is represented along the residential rows, including 1920s Bungalows, 1940s ranch-style houses, 1980s split-level houses, and early 2000s tiered Colonial Revivals. Across the neighborhood, houses range from $231,000 to $790,000, with a median single-family home valued at $460,000. Townhouses and condos are common in this neighborhood. The median townhouse price is $325,000. The residential areas are more tightly packed near the bridge from Nashua over the Merrimack River, but they get more spread out the further away you get from the main roads. Residents appreciate that they get more outdoor running space for the family dog while still having room for a backyard playset for children.

Bridge to U.S. Route 3
When traveling across town, the main paths used are Central Street, Derry and Lowell roads. Ferry and Bridge streets cross the Merrimack River, connecting Nashua and Hudson. "The town's strategic location, bridging to Nashua and close to the Everett Turnpike, adds to its weekend allure," Neault says. Residents appreciate the proximity to U.S. Route 3 in Nashua for drives across the state. Locals drive 14 miles north up New Hampshire Route 3A to Manchester-Boston Regional Airport when traveling out of the region.
Suzie’s Diner and Hudson Mall
In town, Suzie’s Diner has built a state-wide reputation as one of the best diners in New Hampshire. Viewers of WMUR in Manchester gave Suzie’s Diner this recognition in 2022 for the delectable breakfast and lunch options they serve, including the cinnamon bun pancakes and French toast. For lunch and dinner, T-Bones Great American Eatery is a state restaurant chain serving bar food bites and baked-stuffed haddock. While Nashua is a convenient 2-mile drive for additional restaurants and retail options along Derry Road, residents appreciate the convenience of Hannaford in Hudson Mall for picking up weekly groceries, McDonald’s for a quick bite to eat and Backstreet Bar and Grill for beers over a game of pool.
A popular shopping destination, Hudson Mall has a variety of stores to meet your shopping needs.

Reimagined Benson’s Wild Animal Farm
Today, dirt paths lead residents around the old Benson’s Wild Animal Farm, renamed Benson Park. In addition to the more than 4 miles of looped hiking trails, the park features a playground, picnic tables and a 9/11 memorial that includes a piece of steel from the 23rd-floor elevator shaft in the World Trade Center’s North Tower. Local fishing enthusiasts drive down the dirt road to Ottarnic Pond and launch their boats, later reeling in large-mouth bass, chain pickerel and bluegill.
Ducks and geese call Benson Park home.

Community engagements and Hudson Speedway
Over at Hudson Speedway, car enthusiasts catch auto racing shows throughout the warmer months. “Our town is also known for its rich calendar of annual events and traditions, from comedy shows and seasonal parades to ‘Old Home Day’ in summer and festive decorations during Christmas; these traditions foster a powerful sense of community,” Neault says. “Hudson's blend of traditional charm and modern amenities, including a thriving business environment, makes it a unique and welcoming place to live and visit.”
