Hudson offers rural living with access to Lufkin’s amenities
The small city of Hudson has a rural atmosphere where homes sit on lots that often span an acre or more, giving residents privacy and space. But this Angelina County community of 5,200 also benefits from its proximity to nearby Lufkin, a much bigger city with an abundance of shopping, dining and entertainment options. Lufkin is also home to a healthy timber industry, as well as Lockheed Martin, a major military defense and aerospace company.

Most homes in Hudson are manufactured, ranch-style and New Traditional. They sit on grassy lots surrounded by tall trees. Some sit far from residential streets on spacious lawns, especially on the city’s northwest side, where lot sizes are an acre or more. Prices range from $175,000 to almost $440,000, with higher-priced homes often featuring recent renovations or large lots. A small number of large custom homes are located primarily on the city’s east side and range from about $500,000 to $650,000. Land is also available, ranging from $40,000 for a two-acre property to $340,000 for a lot spanning 27 acres.
Hudson ISD schools are highly rated across all grade levels
Hudson Independent School District offers intra-district transfer, and has an A-plus rating on Niche. Students attend W.F. Peavy Primary, W.H. Bonner Elementary, Hudson Middle and Hudson High. All four schools have A ratings on Niche. Recently, Hudson High introduced a floral arranging class, where students take and fill orders from real customers. St. Cyprian’s Episcopal School offers a faith-based education for Pre-K 3 through eighth grade.
Youth sports and indoor fun with parks nearby in Lufkin
Hudson Youth Baseball/Softball Complex is home to multiple youth teams. Hijinx Trampoline Park offers indoor recreation on the weekends. For traditional parks, residents head to nearby Lufkin. One standout green space in Lufkin is Ellen Trout Park, which spans 127 acres and features a lake for fishing and the Ellen Trout Zoo, home to many types of birds, big cats and reptiles.

Because Hudson is largely residential, residents head to Lufkin for most errands and to dine out. However, there are a few restaurants within the city, including Fiesta Mexicana, a casual local spot serving classic Mexican dishes, and Simple Simon’s Pizza, a regional chain offering traditional pizza, sandwiches and “pizzadillas,” folded tortillas filled with pizza toppings cooked like quesadillas. Brookshire Brothers Express is on the city’s west side and has groceries and other essentials, including gas. While the closest hospitals, St. Luke’s Health Memorial and Woodland Heights Medical Center, are in Lufkin, they’re 7 miles or less from any part of Hudson.

State Route 94 connects Hudson to nearby communities
Due to the city’s lack of public transportation, residents get around by car. State Route 94 runs through the city and connects to nearby communities, including Lufkin. The closest international airport is George Bush Intercontinental, about 130 miles away.
