Home to NASCAR legends
The sleepy neighborhood of Hueytown has a lightning-fast history, as the town was once home to the Alabama Gang, a group of NASCAR drivers who became legends. In the late 1950s, Bobby Allison moved to Hueytown with his brother Donnie and friend Red Farmer, and the trio dominated the sport in the 1960s and early '70s. Jimmy Means joined the gang in '73; in '79, their sons started following in their footsteps. Every original member is now in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. Today, you'll find signs of that racing heritage all over town. Hueytown's main street is named Allison-Bonett Memorial Drive. There's also Davey Allison Boulevard and Red Farmer Drive. The Seal of the City of Hueytown even features two checkered flags. Things move a little slower in Hueytown these days, but you can still walk your dogs in a four-wide formation at the local dog park, or start your engines to make it to a youth softball game on time.

Hueytown High School continues along this vein, with many career-path academies and extracurricular clubs. There are nine signature academies available to the students: health science, automotive service technology, legal services, culinary arts, theater, choir, band and cosmetology. Many academies provide students with certifications that they can use either in college or as a gateway to enter the workforce directly after graduation. The school first opened its doors in 1921 and has been a fixture in the community since then, with the entire town cheering on the school's teams.

Ball games at Allison Bonnett Park
"Softball and baseball are huge in Hueytown," says Jessica Miller, a realtor with Keller Williams Metro South. "Anyone with kids here is likely involved in softball." Softball or baseball practices usually occur at Allison Bonnett Park, with its fields and walking paths. Hueytown Park is also home to baseball fields, along with a playground. Humans aren't the only ones who like to play ball, which is why there's Hueytown Dog Park. Here, people can play fetch with their canine companions in its spacious play areas. There are two separate play areas, so larger dogs don't have to mix with smaller ones. The park also always has clean water available to hydrate furry friends. Those who enjoy the equestrian lifestyle have a home at Hueytown Horse Arena, where they can ride along the horse track. Residents can enjoy a scenic walk around the large, sparkling Martin Lake. Those that live along Lakeview Estates Drive enjoy lakeside views and privacy.
