Quiet residential community in Surf City U.S.A.

The Southeast neighborhood in Huntington Beach is a community known for its proximity to the coast, a mix of housing options, and convenient access to Downtown Huntington Beach. Located just inland from the Pacific Ocean, this neighborhood offers residents a blend of suburban living with easy access to the beach and other coastal attractions. “It’s a surprisingly cozy place to live,” says Realtor Mary Ann Divona of First Team Real Estate, a lifelong Huntington Beach resident. “You get a lot of visitors to the beach, especially surfers, obviously, but the locals all know each other. The sense of community is a big part of living here.”

Suburban architectural styles near the beach

The architectural styles in Southeast Huntington Beach reflect the neighborhood’s development over the decades, with a mix of traditional and contemporary designs. Southeast Hungtington housing stock is typical of north Orange County’s coastal neighborhoods, with single-family options ranging from contemporary suburban two-story homes to early 20th-century bungalows, to go along with an array of condos and mobile units. As a result of the incredibly temperate local weather patterns, many properties in the neighborhood are designed to maximize outdoor living spaces, with patios, decks, and backyards that are ideal for the mild Southern California climate. Housing prices vary depending on the proximity to the beach, with more affordable options farther inland and higher-end properties closer to the coast. Manufactured units go for $100,000 to $300,000, condos go for $600,000 to $1.2 million and most single-family homes sell for between $1.4 million and $3 million. The community sits below sea level and has a risk of flooding, which may impact residential properties.
