About Hurst, TX

About Hurst, TX

Dallas suburb between Dallas and Fort Worth with highly-rated schools

Located about 12 miles from Fort Worth and 25 minutes from Dallas, Hurst makes it easy for residents to get to all the major attractions in the Metroplex while still offering plenty to do at home. "It's really about the location. It's close to freeways. You can easily get to Fort Worth or Dallas. And it's close to the airport," says Realtor Shannon Bryant of The Wall Team Realty Associates. "It's really open and has a lot of mature trees. It's nice during the springtime when everything is in bloom." Hurst is home to an estimated 39,000 residents according to the U.S. Census 2023 estimates, a 5 percent increase since 2010. The city's highlights include its relative affordability, shopping and dining options and well-regarded school system. Just north of the country's largest helicopter manufacturers, many in Hurst work at Fort Worth's Bell Helicopter headquarters. "Hurst residents are working for one of four places," says Jarod Marcus, a Realtor with RE/MAX Trinity III. "Bell Helicopter, North East Mall, the school district or for the city."

Ranch-style homes built between 1950 and 1980

Most homes in Hurst are typically ranch-style homes built between 1950 and 1980, with many featuring renovations. Those looking for new construction won't find it in Hurst as most of the city is built out. "Hurst is a little bit older," says Michelle Appling, a Realtor with Keller Williams DFW Preferred. "You'll find older ranch-style homes on larger lots. Because many homes are older, most don't have HOAs." The median home price in Hurst is $345,000, lower than the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area median price of $399,000, according to the Texas Real Estate Research Center. "The market is still very good," Marcus says.

North East Mall, one of the state's largest shopping malls

Residents can visit North East Mall for department stores like JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods and Dilliard's, or catch the latest Hollywood flick at Cinemark North East Mall 18. "It's one of the three largest shopping malls in the state," Marcus says. Chain and local restaurants, along with big box stores, can be found along Precinct Line Road and Pipeline Road. "Hurst did invest a ton of money in a convention center," Marcus says. "It's a big convention draw." The Hurst Conference Center hosts social events, corporate events and weddings. The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex offers all kinds of other activities, and Hurst residents are not far from any of them. "20 minutes away is Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Park. You name it, you've got everything within a 30-minute drive," Williams says.

Four baseball and softball fields offer plenty of space for youth athletics. The Chisholm Aquatic Center is the place to be on hot summer days, with a swimming pool, lazy river and multiple water slides.
